Which ones?! I found no trace of Fed and children in the 1870 GA census. Any chance they might have been overlooked? At some point my grandfather Edmond moved to Madison GA as did some of his sibs. By then he had changed his surname to Parks. Can you shed some light? Help me with this mystery? Thanks. For some reason, unknown to me, the filming of the 1870 Census of Greene County Georgia was truncated before all pages of the original census were photographed. Many of my relatives, who appear in both the 1860 and 1880 censuses, are omitted from the 1870 microfilm. The last page photographed is page 464A. An inspection of that page will make it obvious that it was not the last page of the census. Perhaps the National Archives could explain the omissions. -- Jeff Milner Crawfordville, GA [email protected]

A friend gave me an article recently published in the Greenesboro paper about the "Pear Orchard Crossing" home belonging to the Lords. It mentions that the home was built in 1857 by Elliott Corneilus Bowden for his Daughter Eliza Bowden Shy. Eliza Bowden Shy was the wife of William H. Shy who was a brother of my great grandfather, James Mallard Shy. I have William H. Shy being born in 1847 and marrying in 1868. I have two questions that I need help on. 1. Is the 1857 date correct as to the building of the house? Eliza was probably ten or less at the time if the date is correct. Possibly he could have built it for her with her future in mind. 2. William and Eliza had a child that was killed in an accident at the age of five. I don't have her name or any possible siblings. If anyone should know them I would appreciate that information. Bea, The following message to you came back as undeliverable. "Hi Bea, Thanks for the reply. I descend from Elizabeth "Betsy" Sayers, dau of David & Charity, who m. John Slaughter, Jr. I think I have this line pretty well worked out but as usual there are always some questions. I believe that the James Sayers you referred to was a brother of David who m. Charity Robbins. I cant prove it and would sure like to know thier parents names. My David had a son by the second wife, Elizabeth Martin, that was named James M. born about 1806. What info do you have on David Jr. son of David Sayers & Charity Robbins. My information on him is minimal. Thanks again, Bill Pierce"
Bill, I have further studied this research; there was no proof made that James was the son of David and Charity; and I made a mistake; David was the son not brother of this James with unknown parents. It does have much in the line of deeds for the David Sayers born in 1778. Bea O'Quin
Bill, This Sarah "Sally Sayers was a daughter of James Sayers; the brother that left her 1/3 of his estate appears to have never married. His name was David Sayers. James and David are sons of David Sayers and Charity Robbins. Do you know someone named Janie Lanning? She is a genealogist who researched this Sayers family, trying to prove that it was her family--but If I remember correctly she could find no proof that it was her family. She sent me a copy of her research. If you tell me who you descend from after David and Charity Sayers, I will check and see if your ancestor is there. If he is and you should want a copy of this research, in my own time (whenever I can do it) I will go to the Quick Copy and have it copied for you. There may be about 20 or 30 pages. I tell you that because I no longer drive because of severe eye problems, and someone must go with me when I do get out of my house. I can not see well enough to go alone. I will be happy to copy it as soon as he can take me. But first let's be sure there is something on your ancestors. The FLUKERS that I know about lived in that portion of Greene County, Georgia, roughly in the 137th and 138th Georgia Militia Districts in the northeastern portion of Greene County between what became Woodville and Bethesda Church. One of the GMD's was called Fluker's at one time. It might still be called Fluker's. Can't put my hands on my Greene County maps right now. The Flukers do not appear in the minutes of Bethesda Baptist Church from 1817 to 1865 which I published. Neither did they have any slaves who were members of this church. The Flukers were either unchurched or attended elsewhere. I still have some copies of the church minute book I did for sale if anyone is interested. My mother was a Durham from Greene County, Georgia. I am researching as double lines in that area the Durhams, Reynolds, Bowles (Booles), and Lindseys who lived in that same area. After 34 years of serious research I have not found any marriages between the Flukers and any of the families I am researching. However, my ancestors and the Flukers were long standing neighbors for several generations. My maternal grandparents owned part of the Fluker land and some of my Durham cousins still own part of the Fluker land in that area. The Fluker family name has disappeared from the area. There is also at least one Fluker Cemetery with marked graves and one that is back in the woods with no markers on property my cousins own. There is a marker for it on the county map, but it does not have a name and is not in Armor's Cemetery book. Hope this helps someone.
