He first married Nancy ___, and they had several children in Greene County. After Nancy's death, he married Mary Knight, and they had several children. William and Mary moved from Greene County to Wedowee, Alabama. William's children from the first marriage settled in Greene County. According to oral history, William was a cousin of Pres. Andrew Jackson. Since some of Andrew Jackson's uncles settled in Greene County, this is possible. Thus, I am interested in also corresponding with any descendants of the uncles of Andrew Jackson, some of whom served in the Rev. War. My e-mail address is [email protected]

I don't have a copy of the actual census page for John Bruce so I don't know any age ranges for him and household members, but he lived in the Rankin District. The name Townley Bruce appears in a book as a witness and owner of adjoining land in 1791 so I thought there may be a connection. I am trying to find the parents of my gggrandfather, William Bruce, b. 1789 in GA. Based on the time of his birth, Greene County is a possible location.

Aziel had a son named John L. BRUCE, but he wasn't married until 1821, and in Putnam County, GA. I am not sure who this John is, as I don't have the census in front of me, and you didn't give his age range or number and ages of children. Townley BRUCE isn't connected to Aziel or James as far as I know. Julia French Wood

Surnames: Knowles, Ransom Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/1213 Message Board Post: I am researching my maternal grandmother's family; her mother was Mary Jane Knowles, born August 6, 1828, in Greene County, to Britton C. Knowles and Rebecca Ransom. Her father died while she was still underage, her mother reportedly remarried , and she lived with an uncle (reportedly, Isaac Knowles) who left Greene County . Any information about the Knowles family of Greene County would be very much appreciated. I would also like any information on Isaac Knowles as well. Mary Jane married Norflet Ray Wilkins in Russell County, Alabama, on September 16, 1847, and she died there August 26, 1900.

Does anyone know the names of their children? Were they in fact the offspring of Townley Bruce? Any help is appreciated.

Notice that my message shows a child not named in will as David, in the post below the one with the will in it, and that it also identifies a daughter's spouse. Molly

My grandfather was Ralph Harold Marchman, born in Adele, GA ca. 1910. His sister was Mae and his father was Wallace Marchman. His mother, name unknown to me died in 1916 and Wallace had a succession of wives. He moved to Miami, FL when Ralph was around 10 years old. I have no information other than what I have provided. After three years I have been unable to find out which branch of the Marchman tree Wallace and Ralph come from. It seems that there is no connection---but there must be one somewhere. If you or anyone has info, please respond. Thanks. Peter Marchman Brown
