    1. [Greene] Re: Pendley's in Greene Ct. in 1880 census
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/1171.1 Message Board Post: First, I apologize for not possessing the information you seek. Instead, I seek information on Nancy Pendley (Penley), who could have been my great, great grandmother. A query in the May 3, 1979 Family Puzzler asks what connection Nancy Pendley who died May 8, 1874 had with the Cato family. Also included was question of whether she could be the mother of George Franklin Cato b. 1846 and William Cato b. 1843. Nancy was listed in the 1850 Census for Wilkinson Co., Ga. as head of household with children Mary - 14, William - 7, Francis - 4, Mirinda Ann - 2. After that she disappears. Speculation is that she may have been married to George or Charles. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim Cato

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/1222.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for your help. I am decended from Captain Autry via my Great Great Grandfather, Henry Thomas Mcquage, who married Winniford Autry, the Captains grand daughter. I am trying to find out more about Henry Thomas as well. Apparently he spelled his name differently than did his father.

    1. [Greene] Yates and Wards families in Greene County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Yates, Yeates, Ward Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ic.2ADI/1223 Message Board Post: In 1842 Thomas Yates died in Lowndes County Mississippi, he was born in or about 1790. Just a few years later (1849?) Stephen Asbury Ward dies there also. Thomas has 2 daughters that marry Wards. One of them is James W. Ward, a son of Stephen Ward. Stephen Asbury Ward was born in Greene County in 1776. At least one of Thomas Yates daughters, and one of his sons, Zacheriah, were born in Georgia. Zacheriah Yates (later Yeates) and Stephen Ward move on to Jasper County, Texas 1848-1849. Thomas Yates was married to a woman named Abigail, maiden name unknown. Was Thomas Yates from Greene County? Was he born there? Did his family emigrate to Mississippi with the Wards? Is Greene County the birthplace of Zacheriah Yates, and his sister(s) Sara and Martha? Am hoping someone has the answer to some or all of theses questions.

    1. [Greene] Haralson, Georgia
    2. My ancient ancestor, Daniel Meadows, reported in his War of 1812 pension application that he volunteered for service in Haralson, Greene County, Georgia. He was mustered in and out of service in Sparta, Hancock County, and served from 12 October 1814 until 12 March 1815. When was Haralson founded? Was it ever in Greene County?

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/710.1 Message Board Post: I just stumbled onto your message a couple of days ago. Joshua Martin and wife Mary did have a daughter named Mary "Polly" Martin. Polly married Robert Whatley 1796 in Oglethorpe Co., GA. Did you find an 1801 SC marriage record that indicated a Mary "Polly" Whatley married a Morrow? We (several Martin researchers) have no record that Polly ever married a Morrow, but I don't recall that we've ever looked at available SC records for such a marriage. Joshua had moved his family to Wilkes Co., GA in 1787 from NC. The family had originated in Maryland and moved to NC about 1777. As Wilkes Co., GA was partitioned into other counties the family found themselves residing in Oglethorpe Co.; later Joshua moved just across the county line into Greene Co. where he died in 1803. The list of Polly's siblings you presented is correct.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ic.2ADI/1078.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm taking a long shot. I'm looking (without much luck) for the parents of my grandfather, Albert Gresham. Albert was born in Fl. in 1891. His mother was Mary (b-1847 in Ga). His father was also born in Ga, but evidently died before 1910, as Mary was listed as a widow. This info is from 1910 Manatee Fl. census. He married Florence Chapell in Manatee Co, Fl in 1910, divorced and re-married in Houston, Tx. in 1914. They had 2 sons, Willard and Albert Cecil (my dad). Your Albert Evans Gresham listed (b-1863, d-1904) could be a longshot. I realized that he would've ben much younger than my Mary (b-1847), but I'd already started the post. It can't hurt to ask. Thanks for any help, Jean

Surnames: Autry Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/1222.1 Message Board Post: Actually, it happened on the banks of Richland Creek near Scull Shoals on the Oconee River on 2 February 1788. Captain John Autry went out alone and was murdered by Creek Indians... and was buried where he fell. Note that the spelling Scull Shoals is the current modern spelling. I believe that Col. Elijah Clarke's letter to the governor of Georgia that documents Captain Autry's death spelt it Scull Sholes. If you will look at a current Georgia highway map you will see that the Oconee National Forest is divided into two separate pieces. Look at the northernmost part of the northernmost section along the Oconee River and you will see that Scull Shoals is there. It is now a "Georgia ghost town", but it did not yet exist at the time of Captain Autry's death. If I understand the political situation correctly the Creeks and Georgia settlers were at peace and Captain Autry was on lands that Georgia had acquired from the Creeks... but some Creeks did not accept the aquisition as legitimate. Not to mention that from time to time individual Creeks had a tendency to murder folks for whatever reason. There was no battle. I haven't seen anything that proves Captain John Autry was my 3-great grandfather's father, but it is my understanding that he was. My line goes: John Autry + Barbara Rebecca McMillian widow of James Murphy John English Autry + Mary McQuien Forest Presell Autry + James Daniel Haire Mary Lee Haire + King Walter Davis Pauline Davis + Herman Esker White me I would appreciate knowing your line of descent from Captain John Autry. 3. - Release of the 1930 U.S. Census The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration will release the 1930 Federal population census for the first time on April 1, 2002. At that time, the microfilmed copies will be available for research at the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, at 13 of the National Archives regional facilities across the nation, and through the National Archives rental program. The 1930 census is the 15th Federal census mandated by the U.S. Constitution, which states, "The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct...". The 1930 census consists of 2,667 rolls of population schedules and 1,587 rolls of Soundex indexes for 12 southern states, totaling 4,254 rolls. Even though the statistical summaries collected by enumerators are made public shortly after the census is taken, information on individuals and families is restricted by law for privacy reasons for 72 years. [92 Stat. 915; Public Law 95-416; October 5, 1978].
