    3. Just a note to remind everyone that some times the census ages were incorrect and the toombstones are sometimes incorrect. I have been told by a lot of my relatives that they just guessed at the birth date. So evaluate research remembering that tidbit. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2002 12:09 AM Subject: [Greene] Re: Pendley's in Greene Ct. in 1880 census > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Pendley > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/1171.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Jim, glad to hear from you but sorry I cannot help you. I have been successful in finding some of my Pendley's. I am sure we are all related but it is hard to connect families by census because it was 1850 before they listed names of the families etc. Keep in touch as we might be able to find more on the Pendley's. I did find a Thomas Pendley who married 1818 a Nancy Coffey. But he was born in 1789 and she in 1791 so it is not your Nancy Pendley. Also in 1850 censu of forsyth Ct. a Nancy M. Pendley is listed as daughter of William Pendley. She was born in 1839--wrong age for your Nancy. > My e-mail address is [email protected] > > Amy C. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/886.894 Message Board Post: Hi - There are several names in this interchange that impress me. The wife of Elisha Sparks HUNTER (b. 1814), Ann Eliza (1819-1872), is supposed to be a ROLLS but I do not think this family information is correct. He father was supposed to have been a James and she did name her only son, James Thomas HUNTER (1845-1868). She also had children named Laura, Julia, Mary Lou and Emma HUNTER - born 1840-1850. Ann Eliza's mother was named Cynthia and she married this ROLLS (or whatever his name was) before 1818. They had children named Eden, Anne Eliza, Julia Gibbs, Sara Winn and James H. -- all born 1818-1824. After the death of her first husband she married Vincint SANFORD (b. 1777 in VA) and both are alive in 1850 and are listed on the 1850 Greene County, GA census. I do not know whether this first husband was named James ROLLS (1793 in Virginia - 21 Nov 1824 in Greenesboro), KNOWLES, NOLES, BOOLES, RHODES or something else. Any information is appreciated...

Cynthia COPELAND married a Vincent SANFORD (b. about 1777 in VA, age 73 in 1850 Greene County, GA census) after the death of her first husband. Family documents from the HUNTER family say her first husband was named ROLLS but I am not sure this is correct because there are no ROLLS in Greene County in that time frame. Possibilities are: BOLLES, BOOLES, NOLES, KNOWLES and even RHODES. Do you have any information on this Cynthia? Or, any connection to the Elisha HUNTER family in your bunch? Thanks.....

E. S. HUNTER was born about 1814, age 36 in 1850. He and Ann Eliza (last name is not comfirmed but family history says ROLLS but it may be BOOLES, NOLES, KNOWLES or even RHODES). Anyway, this Ann Eliza was born in 1819 and died in 1872 in Greensboro. They had five children that I know of: Laura (b. about 1840), Julia (about 1842), James (1845-1868), Mary Louise (1847-1917) and Emma (about 1848). We also know that her mother (Cynthia Ann) COPELAND married a Vincent SANFORD after her first husband died in 1824. The name of her first husband was listed in family documents as ROLLS but this may not have been his name, as I have stated earlier. Any information is appreciated.

    1. Re: [Greene] Death of E. H. Armor
    2. OBITUARIES: GREENSBORO: 'H' Armor, 84, wildlife ranger, who raised catfish, grew pines Kay Powell - Staff Thursday, January 3, 2002 "H" Armor figured that on a fisherman's first night in heaven, he would be served either broiled catfish fillets or fried catfish with french fries, coleslaw, fresh tomatoes and iced tea. The catfish farmer believed fishing made you live longer. "Stress will kill you quicker than anything in the world except a shotgun," he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1993. "Fishing reduces stress. You aren't worried about taxes or the poor job the president or the governor is doing. You just think about catching that fish." Mr. Armor grew more than 1 million pine trees and even more channel catfish on his Greene County farm. Among his career titles are author, genealogist, geologist, anthropologist, ichthyologist, tree farmer and Greene County historian. He was a director of the Farm Bureau and a Georgia wildlife ranger. The funeral for Edgar Harvey "H" Armor Jr., 84, of Greensboro, who died of a heart attack Monday at Willow Run retirement home, is 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro. McCommons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Armor, a University of Georgia graduate, helped develop the state's aquaculture commodities program, or catfish farming. For nearly 50 years, he raised channel catfish in seven ponds on his farm. "I give away more catfish than I sell," he said in a Journal-Constitution interview. He raised 1,500 catfish per acre on fish chow. "It's a worry-free thing with me, or I wouldn't be fooling with it," he said. "A total of 1.1 pounds of feed will give you 1 pound of meat on catfish. That's better than chickens, cows and pigs." Catfish is regarded as a brain food, and Mr. Armor believed that. "I know people who eat fish are smarter than people who don't. They're healthier." Mr. Armor baited his hooks with chicken liver, catalpa worms, earthworms, a piece of bluegill, gum or rotten oysters and once caught a catfish on a piece of sweetly scented soap. He could clean three catfish a minute and was noted for the barbecue and stew suppers he organized at his cabin in the Veazey community. A bachelor, Mr. Armor shared his love of the outdoors with children. "He had more to do with raising the children of Greene County than anyone except their parents," said pharmacist Dr. Fred Hunter of Greensboro. "He would get a Jeep load of boys and take us to the river or to plant pine trees. "We spent a lot of time on the river, when it was the Oconee River instead of Lake Oconee. We would camp and fish and set trot lines and eat what we caught," said Dr. Hunter. Mr. Armor became an even more valuable resource as the Ritz-Carlton Lodge brings in visitors seeking a part of the Old South. He served as an unofficial guide to the Greene County historical and geographical landscapes for the newcomers. He could tell stories from the days in the late 18th century, when his ancestors helped settle the region, and speak with authority about the land. He knew the Oconee River like few others. As a young man, he fished it, legally and sometimes illegally. Then the state hired him to help stop people from trapping fish, and he once literally waded the length of the river, from Milledgeville to Athens, searching for illegal traps. "I've had the most wonderful life any human being could ever have," Mr. Armor told the Journal-Constitution. There are no immediate survivors

The James, Jr. and William you are discussing are his sons. William (1767-1850) was married to Rachel ROBINETTE and James, Jr.(1789-1858) was married to a Lucinda MEEKS. William lived in Emanuel County and I do know where James, Jr. was. James's senior was probably married twice which is the reason for the differneces in ages between James, Jr. and William. I am looking for a Bryant or Bryan BEASLEY, probably born about 1810-20 because I have him on a incorporation statue with my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. (1809-1865) of Jefferson County, GA in 1859. These BEASLEYS were all tied up with my DANIEL bunch down in Jefferson, Burke and Emanuel and I am just trying to figure out some of the reasons why. I know there are several connections in my DANIEL bunch to Greene County, in the HUNTER, COLEMAN and ROWLANDS families. I also know there are DANIELS in Greene County and I will bet they are also related to my bunch down in Jefferson County, GA. There are also connection between my DANIEL bunch and Morgan County, GA where a lot of these Greene County folks ended up at some point.
