I didn't realize just how many Ellises there are until I started searching for my family! What information I do have is that my Ellis family were supposedly from Virginia but will continue the search on the information which you so graciously sent me. Thanks again, June

Ruth Augusta Ellis married Winslow Price and came to the area and two of her brothers came with her on a wagon train. I met the Ellis family over the summer of 2001. My great grandmother was also a Ellis. She married William JAckson Ellis. Thier children left the area of HAll County and moved near thier family of Ellis in Green County near Maxeys GA. I hope this helps. Their family of Ellis came from North Carolina to a small town of Towns County GA. JC Ellis and Elizabeth Wallace Ellis. They have a reunion each year in the County of Clay North Carolina.

According to an article sent by Roy Park, written in 1960, the big house at Park's Mill was once a tavern and inn. The road in front of the house was once known as Seven Islands Highway, extending from New Orleans to Philadelphia. It was still around then (1960) but I don't know about now. The mill and other buildings were established before Morgan was even a county. There is a Park's Association. Write [email protected] for more info. G. I rechecked the 1850 census, Jordan & Sarah ROWLAND are the next family listed after the PARROTT family. So far I have not been able to find Jordan or Sarah in 1850. I also found Jordan (son of Jordan & Sarah) in Lowndes Co, GA in the 1860 census, his mother wasn't listed with his family. I want to check the Greene County books at the library but, I may not be able to get there for another week or so. I'll post to the list if I find any new information. take care, Debbie

Others have given us the following information. We do not know if it is all correct or not: Jordan Rowland (1771-1850) married Sally Swan (no more info on her) Daughter was Sarah K. Rowland (born January 1,1816, died May 23 1890) Sarah K. Rowland married Curtis Parrott (born January 2, 1834, death date not known) Curtis Parrott and Sarah K. Rowland had eight children, one of whom was Asbury L. Parrott, my wife's great-great-grandfather. Don't know if this helps at all, but you never know. Charles Broman
To all, I have Jordan & Sarah ROWLAND & Jordan & Lucy ROWLAND in Greene Co, GA's 1850 census. I can't find either couple in Greene Co, GA's 1860 census. If you have any idea where they went, please e-mail me. thanks, debbie

The Herald-Journal, Greensboro, Ga., Thursday, January 10, 2002 GREENE COUNTY HISTORIAN E.H. ARMOR DIES ON NEW YEARS EVE AT AGE 84 Edgar Harvey Armor, Jr., affectionately known as "H", 84, of Greensboro, Ga. died Monday, December 31, 2001 at Willow Run Retirement Home. A native and lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on March 2, 1917 to the late Edgar Harvey Armor Sr. and Frances Alberta Hall Armor and lived in the house where he was born until he moved to Willow Run earlier this year. "H" graduated from Greensboro High School and had several degrees from the University of Georgia. He served as a Director of the Farm Bureau Board and as a Wildlife Ranger for the State of Georgia where he was instrumental in the beginning of the Aquaculture Commodities Program for the State. He was an Author, Genealogist, Geologist, Anthropologist, Ichthyologist, Tree Farmer and Greene County Historian. "H" wrote a weekly column in the Herald-Journal "It's Great To Live In 'Greene," for over 25 years. In his role as County Historian, "H" wrote "The Cemeteries of Greene County, Georgia," a treasure of genealogical information about historically important people of Greene County and he did a reprint of the "History of Greene County, Georgia." His autobiography, "Little 'h', " is filled with facts and memories that "H" assures us "Is all true;' even if it sometimes sounds a shade doubtful." He worked for McCommons Funeral Home for over 20 years and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro where he served as a Deacon, Chief Usher and Sunday School Superintendent. He was famous for his bar-b-que and stew dinner on the grounds at his cabin In the Veazey Community. He recently realized a lifelong dream when he completed and dedicated a museum on the campus of Nathanael Greene Academy in Siloam. The museum is a visual history of "H's" life containing artifacts and treasures from his numerous rambles through Greene County and around the world. Always an avid outdoorsman, "H" had a love of nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, eating, community involvement, work and play and a wide range of other topics and events. He is survived by a niece Ann Edwards of Bayhead, NJ; a nephew Bill Armor of Freemont, CA and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Armor. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro with Rev. Dr. Ford G'Segner and Wayne Usry officiating. Burial followed at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Charles Copelan, Sam Marshall, Dick Schmidt, Jamie Reynolds III, Carey Williams, Jr., Cotton Boswell, Butch Thompson, Steve Brady, and John Meyers. Dr. Lee Parker served as an honorary pallbearer. The family received friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro, GA, was in charge of arrangements. -- Jeff Milner Crawfordville, GA [email protected]
