I have a theory that Joel James, born 26 Mar 1796, Augusta County VA, is a son of Sherrod James, born about 1776, and wife Leodicia Sandlin; that Daniel A James, born about 1830, is a son of Joel James. Can anyone provide information that refutes or substantiates that theory? I know that Mary Ann James, born 14 Mar 1845, Marshall IN, is a dau of Joel James; that Mary Agnes James, born 1 Oct 1857, New Orleans LA, is a dau of Daniel A James; that Sherrod/Sharod/Sharud/Sherwood James was a resident in 1840 of Gilmer County GA, living next to several Moss families that also resided next to Sherrod James in York County SC, before they moved to Gilmer County GA; that Patrick Jackson Moss married Mary Ann James in IN, and lived in Habersham County GA (near Gilmer County); that Mary Agnes James raised the orphaned niece and nephews of Patrick Jackson Moss. If anyone has already identified any of these families found in the 1850 Federal Census of Gilmer County GA, I will appreciate your findings. Norm, I have found a reference or two to Cynthia James being married to my Ellison Cobb (ggg-grandfather). Cynthia was the daughter of Sherrod and Leodicia Sandlin James. There is also reason to think that Ellison was married to Cynthia Hutchins. Maybe both? Anyway, I believe Sharrod & Leodicia were in Pickens County prior to or after Gilmer. And I believe, that Sylvia Caldwell Rankin (Pickens list owner?) is researching the James. If you don't already have this information let me know and I'll dig thru my papers to get more specific dates, etc. And if you find evidence that Cynthia James was married to Ellison Cobb please let me know.
