    2. I checked the 1860 census of Gilmer Co. and fournd William P. Milton 25 Merchant born N. C. Nancy C. Milton 19 born N. C. P. H. Milton 21 clerk I assume that William and Nancy are "just" married as they have no children. P. H. Milton is probably a younger brother living with Willian and his wife. Milton, William P. -- Elected 1st Lieutenant of Company D, 11th Regiment Georgia Infantry July 3, 1861. Resigned, having been elected Captain of Company I, 39th Regiment Georgia Infantry, July 14, 1862. Resignation accepted July 30, 1862. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863, and paroled there July 8, 1863. Elected Lieutenant Colonel April 9, 1865. Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina April 26, 1865. The above is in the military records file. Also in the 60 census is " William H. Milton 75 Physician born France Elizabeth S. wife age 54 born S. C. L. D 1`7 male Elizabeth L. 14 Martha L. Bird 15 There is also a Sarah minton age 60 born N. C. and Mary Minton age 48 born N. C. living with the Jessee and Elizabeth Harper family In the 1850 census: Willian H. Milton 65 Physician Born G. B. Elizabeth L. 43 born S. C. William P. age 14 Student Bron N. C. Pinckney H. age 10 Lafayette D age 7 Elizabeth L. age 4 also living with the family is: William W. West 24 born N. C. Doctor M. West age 20 both the West men are listed as grocer In the marriage records: L. D. Melton (Lafayette D.) wed Margaret E. Williams 27 Nov 1869 P. H. Melton (Pinckney H.) wed N. C.
