I am so excited to share with you that Dorinda Whitley has created a master listing for the Deeds of Gilmer County -- ABCDEF books. You can just imagine the amount of work and eyestrain that went into this labor for all of you who research in Gilmer County http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gilmer/deeds.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gilmer/photos/landlots.jpg Land Lot map was also created by Dorinda This is a great asset...and now let's do our part by typing up any deeds you are able to obtain (or maybe you have some already in your files). I know that transcribing these deeds can be a daunting task...but actually the same sort of words are used in most all of them. The important thing of course is the individual differences.... who bought it, where they lived, who sold it, where the land was located land district, land lot, witnesses. Some will mention some bordering land owners... Looking at the deeds page, you can see that so many of them were shared by Suzanne Forte. I feel certain that some of you do have a deed or two in your file, and if you need help in getting this transcribing done, just write to me. The more everyone shares, the more we will be helped to get past a brick wall. Deeds (by who signs the deed) can also be a clue for some of those married daughters we're always looking for. It's been my experience that if the land came through the wife, then her signature was required on the deed itself. Most of all let's say a BIG THANK you to Dorinda! Virginia
