Gordon County was created in 1850. It was previously called Cass County. There are some mentions in the book concerning Gilmer County of Robertsons. a Mrs. W.F. Robertson was the manager of the White Path Hotel in 1886. A Thomas C. Robertson went to jail for murder in Gilmer County in 1849, served in Miledgeville which was the state capitol. Nothing more about him. On the 1830 census there was a Samuel Robertson, married with 7 children, farmer living in the Cherokee Indian Territory - not specific exactly where he was living at that time. He also shows on the 1831 census but not after that and no further mention of Samuel. All whites had to register if they were "working" land that belonged to the Cherokees.
