Green Felmet is mention in the Ward book as having been a former resident dying in Texas May 8, 1904. He is listed as a veteran of the Indian wars and the Civil War. He shows up on the 1850 Gilmer census records: 32 | 171 171 | Green Felmet | 32 M | Farmer NC 33 | 171 171 | Preshues Felmet | 25 F | NC 34 | 171 171 | Martha Felmet | 11 F | NC 35 | 171 171 | Doras H Felmet | 9 M | NC 36 | 171 171 | John Felmet | 6 M | GA 37 | 171 171 | Sarah Felmet | 2 F | GA Teague is an old Gilmer name with many descendants still living here. If you have someone specific I'll see what I can find. A pioneer by the name of A.K. Blackwell came in 1834 and was a layer and shop owner for a time before he moved to Murray County... it states he never married. There is also a mention of a J. W. Blackwell who was a teacher but nothing more is said about him. In Ernest Parker's book there is mention of two Blackwell sisters Patsy and Cindy who took in four orphaned nieces and raised them as family. The nieces were SMITHS. This family lived in the same area of Bucktown as the Thompsons did. I have several names for Thompsons listed. Looking in another of Lawrence Stanley books I have found a John Carter listed who fought the Indians with Sevier or it was his son Enoch who saved Sevier... not sure the way it is worded. Then Stanley talks about a man named Fount(ain) Branch Carter. And then Farish Carter of Carter's Quarters... which was an Indian town on the Coosawatee River. A Jim Carter who married and Indian woman named Sarah Jane Parker. Author states he doesn't know if all these Carters are related. I find nothing on the Comptons, or Parhams in any of the books. Leslie
Rod/Leslie, Don't know how much you know but Green Felmet is my GGG grandfather. Three Felmetsons of Green married three daughters of Moses Teague from there. I found Moses Teague on Jury lists in the 1850s on rootsweb. Moses' wife is buried in Leonard Cemetery as is two of his daughters and two sons in law....along with many of Isaac Teague's kids. Gilmer County may not know but there is an area of Fannin/Hunt Counties in Texas(NE of Dallas 75 miles) known as Little Georgia! Gilmer Co, Ga is mentioned on the headstone of Andrew Jackson Teague and his wife Samantha in Hogeye(now Celeste) Cemetery. I do not reckon the books are still in print. If they are then please let me know how I might obtain them. I have a copy of an 1850 Census ostensibly in Floyd County with Green Felmet as well. Green Felmet married Preshus Carter(dau of Henry and Martha Parham). Her sister Sarah married a Thompson. Their daughter Nancy married James Teague, brother of Isaac and Moses. I gather Moses Teague was a Baptist preacher. Wonder if the minutes of the Mt Zion Baptist Church mentions him. Anyone know if the Mt Zion BC is still in operation and who might be the historical contct there?
