Hi, Just a reminder, if you will be out at the cemetery this weekend making pictures, please make a few extra to share with those researchers not fortunate enough to be from this area or that are not able to travel to the cemeteries. I have received many comments from people saying that they would appreciate anyone that can do this because they are unable to travel for health reasons and have to do all their research by computer or mail. So please, if you haven't finished that roll off on your own find a few extra burial markers and snap them, scan the pictures and email them to me along with the cemetery name and county and I will get them posted in hopes they may help other researchers. Photos are not limited to what you take this weekend. If you have old ones lying around that you would be willing to share you may send them also. If you do not have scan capabilities please contact me and we will work something out to do them by snail mail. Many, many thanks from me and all the other researchers out here in internet land. Hi All, The following message was posted on another mailing list that I subscribe to and I thought it might be a good idea to pass along. A lot of you will be going there to make those pics anyway so why not add a few more as a kindness to those not able to be there to make their own. Some may not be able to travel and some may just live too far away. Do other genealogy researchers a big favor and include those extras. Then if you will email them to me and specify the cemetery, I will post them online for other researchers to see. > Greetings, all! > With this weekend being Memorial Day, and several of you will be > traveling to cemeteries, I would like to suggest that you take a digital > camera with you, and take some photos of the tombstones in the cemeteries > that you visit. Small cemeteries can easily be covered by one person, but > larger cemeteries would need several people to take photos. > This is just an idea I'm floating/proposing, since cemeteries usually > look their best at Memorial Day, and it usually isn't too hot yet to be > out. >>so there is somewhere to put all these photos once we gather them. On behalf of all the other researchers out there and myself I would like to thank you in advance for your kindness. Paula Georgia AHGP http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/state/ email to pkeith@alltel.net
Dear Cousins, This will be my final message to you before the reunion. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know you all through my computer & through letters. You have all been so supportive & responsive concerning this reunion which made it so rewarding for me personally. You are all a great bunch of Casts, Walkers, Humphrey's, Heatleys, etc etc etc. Even though I'm a Cast by marriage I feel as close to you all as if you were my own cousins. It is my prayer that all of you that attend the reunion arrive safely, enjoy yourself completely & make it home safely.[Please don't make anyone mad out on that highway]. I hope those of you that are unable to attend this reunion will make it to the next one in 2003. I will keep you all on my mailing list which has become quite extensive. IMPORTANT>>>>>WE NEED A HEAD COUNT. PLEASE, PLEASE, IF IT IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WILL BE AT THE REUNION. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY WE WILL BE TOTALLY PREPARED. WE NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY WILL BE THERE SO THERE WILL BE ENOUGH FOOD, DRINKS ETC. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SEND A LONG MESSAGE JUST SAY YOU WILL OR WILL NOT BE THERE. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>THANK YOU Don't forget to bring your FAMILY HISTORY TO SHARE. Your genealogy charts,[zerox copies to hand out], pictures, albums, bibles & hopefully some of us will have wonderful old family stories to tell. There will be a microphone available so you will be able to introduce yourself & your family ancestral lineage. HOW ABOUT A HOE-DOWN. Bring your musical instruments & your singing voices & we'll have a party. There will be electrical outlets. If possible, bring chairs or pallets, ice chest with drinks, anything that will make you comfortable. There will be some seating & tables already there but I'm not sure how much. Saturday will be POT LUCK. Bring a covered dish. [Don't everybody bring potato salad & Pork n Beans, giggle]If you are traveling & this would be impossible for you to do, you might bring something from a fast food restaurant or sandwich makings [which is one of my favorite foods]. Whatever is available & convenient for you. If you are unable to bring anything, please don't give it a second thought. I'm positive there will be enough to go around. For those who will be arriving on Friday the 31st of May we will have a tour of local cemeteries available. You are invited to attend the FIRST ANNUAL NATIONAL CAST / WALKER / HUMPHREY/ HEATLEY REUNION 2002 . PLEASE MARK THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR JUNE 1st & 2nd SATURDAY & SUNDAY 2002 RUSH SPRINGS, OKLAHOMA AT THE PAVILLION IN THE CITY PARK 8: AM - 5: PM EACH DAY. A John Crumley was murdered his nephew William Erwin Crumlely sometime before 1-18-1858. There may be a old newpaper article with this information. It could also be in one of the old Gilmer or Fannin Co., GA newpapers, if such a thing exists. Any help at all will help. Best Regards, Wylene
I want to apologize for duplicating my reunion invitation on the Gilmer Co. mailing list. Helen Cast hcast@dmv.com

Hello! I just wanted to let everyone know that I have overhauled the GAGenWeb Project Gilmer County Page. The same (and MORE!) information is there, it's just not nearly as busy and is much easier to navigate. I still need for everyone that has deed, wills, obituaries, or anything else of historical or genealogical significance to send them in to us. We need your help to make the GAGenWeb Project Gilmer County Page the best free page on the internet! Richard Pettys
The following records are now online in the Gilmer Co., GAGenWeb Archives (http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gilmer.htm): Obituary, Mary Caroline Gudger Foster, 1889 Will and Probate of the estate of William Henry Foster, 1920 Guardianship of the children of Isabell Foster, deceased, 1892 Family Bible of George W. Watkins Obituary, George W. Watkins, 1934 1850 Census, Gilmer Co., GA Many thanks to Suzanne Forte, Richard Pettys, Jr., Linda Atkins and Cassandra Newby for transcribing these documents and allowing us to place them in the online archives. Since October 2001, researchers like Suzanne, Richard, Linda and Sandi have contributed more than 700K of transcribed material to the Gilmer Co., GAGenWeb Archives, making this county the most active archives page in the northeast Georgia area. As much material as we have in the archives now, there are still hundreds of documents out there that need to be placed online. If anyone would like to donate transcribed records for placement in the GAGenWeb Archives, please let me know and I will do everything that I can to help you. Sincerely, Dawn Watson http://www.usgennet.org/usa/region/southeast/ http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ridge/3398/
Ebenezer Fain was b. Aug 27, 1762 in PA, and died Dec. 29, 1842. in GA. He moved into Buncombe Co., NC circa 1800, then to GA probably before 1840. I am currently involved in researching the early settlers of Transylvania Co., NC. The land he lived on was later in Transylvania Co., NC. My question is....has anyone researched the Fain back across the ocean. What country did his people come from. I would love to have documentation on this! I am not directly related to him, but some of my relatives did marry into his family, in two instance so have long been interested in him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards, Wylene Alston
The 1850 Census of Gilmer Co., GA is now online, and this time it's the whole census! :-) http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gilmer/census.html Many thanks, once again, to Cassandra Newby for her hard work in transcribing this document and allowing us to put it online.
Can someone possibly help Callie out? It appears that she is not on the list, so, if you can help, please reply to her directly at Calicat@adelphia.net Richard ----- Original Message ----- From: "Callie Helm" <calicat@adelphia.net> To: <rpettys@smyrnacable.net> Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2002 5:41 PM Subject: gilmer county genealogy > Hello, > I found your e-mail on the Gilmer county website for the Georgia GenWeb > project. How-dee, group. First, a personal request. I am looking for information regarding Comfort Ida Jones of Gilmer County, Georgia. She was born March 13, 1829 and married John Daniel Nelson. I am primarily interested in her parentage, but am also interested in J.D. Nelson. They were married at Cherry Log. He was a gunsmith who had a place at Boardtown as well (he made the Nelson Rifle). I am also looking for information on George W. Watkins. Any information on him is muchly appreciated. Secondly, as the County Coordinator for Gilmer County in the GAGenWeb Project, I am looking for help on Gilmer County. I am looking for people who have done transcriptions of Gilmer County genealogical records to post on the site for others to use. If you have transcriptions, please send them to me offlist. If you are willing to help with transcriptions, please let me know, too. :) I am also looking for volunteers to perform look-ups. Look-ups are done by request in books that you have and are limited to three names per request. In essence, all you do is look up the name and respond with a small amount of information (determined by you) or respond that you were unable to find said person. If you are interested in helping in this fashion, please let me know that, as well as what books you have access to for such searches. Thank you, Richard R. Apparently when Cassandra Newby sent the 1850 census to Virginia Crilley (who is the state coordinator for the GAGenWeb Archives Project), Virginia wasn't able to download the whole file, although she didn't realize it at the time. It was only after she sent it to me and the census was put online that anyone realized the whole thing wasn't there. Cassandra sent Virginia a new file, which I'll be putting online on a page-by-page basis. When the whole thing is up, I'll announce it here. The first part will remain available while I'm working on the rest of it: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gilmer/census.html I apologize to everyone for not letting y'all know what was going on last week when Cassandra sent us the corrected file. My son and I have both been sick with the winter-blahs, which has slowed my work down considerably. Thanks for your patience.
