Has anyone come across this in reading any materials associated with the city of Ellijay... says it is on this river... was that the name that the Ellijay River was known as first? Hi, Is there anyone on this list that is able to do look-ups? My grannys family married in Gilmer County, Georgia. Ellen Celia Dotson and Wallace Oliver Dean in 1925. I can't find anything on Wallace. But i know he was in Gilmer County for a little while. Then the Dotsons moved to Dekalb County, Alabama, and i guess him and Ellen moved with them. 2004 GA Jay/Bramlett/Wallis/Wallace and Allied Family Reunion The Hopewell Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Murrayville, Hall Co., GA has been reserved for the 2004 GA Jay/Bramlett/Wallis/Wallace and allied Family Reunion. This event will take place April 23 & 24, 2004. Shortly after migrating from Warren Co. TN to Hall Co. GA in 1822, David Jay Sr. settled on Hall Co. Land Lot #61 just south of current Murrayville, GA. On June 16, 1837 the Rev. Jay donated 3 acres of his 240+ acre tract to the Methodist Episcopal Church "in consideration of his love for the Church and his desire for its prosperity". This land lot was subsequently sold many times......to son William Jay, neighbor Nathan Bramlett, etc.......always including the 3 acre "Hopewell Meeting House" exclusion until the Church formally acquired the land by recorded deed in 1895. Today the church and congregation are still vibrant.......with a new Fellowship Hall no less. Additionally, an immaculate small graveyard exists next door with a multitude of Jay and allied family graves. We have a host of activities planned for the two days. On the 23rd of April, after congregating at the church, we will take a "cemetery tour" from Hall to Lumpkin to Forsyth Counties visiting many family graves. On Saturday the 24th we will spend the day at the church visiting with cousins, sharing pictures and stories. We additionally have some wonderful presentations scheduled by local historians and family researchers. A complete agenda will follow in the next few updates. If you are researching, related to or allied to the following family lines.....Jay, Bramlett, Wallis, Wallace, Harris, Gamblin, Rutherford, Charles, Mincey, Waters, Castleberry, Martin, Daniel, Banks, Leach, Hise, Lusk, etc. .then this is the event for you. There will be no charge for the event. Saturday everyone will be ask to bring a covered dish. More details will be posted twice a month from now until reunion time. Individuals requiring lodging can stay in Gainesville, GA, which is a 15 minute drive from the church. Additionally, Gainesville has an excellent regional genealogy research library that has late evening hours......for the obsessed researcher. The following is a list of Gainesville, GA hotels you may wish to contact. Many of us will stay at the Hampton Inn, as it offers a nice complimentary breakfast along with nice rooms for a reasonable rate. For more information on the reunion, you may contact Vince King at entech.design@verizon.net. SEE YOU THERE!!! Hello list, I am looking for one or two things. One, I show that John W. Raines was given land lot #70 in the fifth district, second section of Cherokee Co (now Gilmer Co.) GA. Are there any records of this 1832 Land Lottery winning? Second, it shows that John W. Raines was from Elbert Co., GA. I find him in the 1830 Elbert Co., GA census to confirm this fact. I find him in Cherokee Co., AL in the 1840 census. I would like to know if there is a deed that would show the sale of land after 1833 (he most likely wouldn't have been able to sell it until 1833) and before 1840. I appreciate any help someone can give me in attaining copies of any of these deeds. Blessings, Jill Watters Rains Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL Jill :] "I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods I will sing praise unto thee." Psalm 138:1

Looking for a family owned cemetery that contains the remains of a Mary Rose Brannon, supposed to be on a Johnson Road. but I only find Johnson Dr., Johnson Ct. and Johnson Mill Road. Only cemetery on Johnson Mill Road seems to be one named for the Kinser family. Leslie "Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Dennis, what are the names of the two sons that you are mentioning? And time period? My Granddaddy in law came there about in the 1890's. PeggySue <O'Shields>> GADDIS The two brothers were the sons of Burton & Nancy Ann Page Dover of Gilmer County. Adolphus A ("Dolph") was born 1857 and his brother Richard Sherman born 1864. The both married BLACKWOOD's in Blount Co. in 1882 and 1886. There is some record in Blount County that shows Adolphus tied to the LN & R Railroad. There's also another Dover in Blount County, Alabama that worked for the LN & R Railroad. He was born in Alabama except that he is a grandson of Edmund Bryan Dover (b 1827) who was living in the same 1850 Lumpkin County, Georgia household of Burton Dover (b 1823), then single along with another "brother?" Noah who vanished from earth after that census and after a marriage that produced one daughter that somehow connects with the Dover family of Edmund Bryan Dover. I appreciate the response to my query. It's interesting about the railroad from my end because my grandfather worked for the Cotton Belt and predecessors for 50 years before he retired. He was the chief clerk for probably 45 of those years at the same desk at the same station in Arkansas. Those were the days of green visors and sealing wax/rr stamps. A picture of him when he first started and his gold watch are treasured mementos. His grandfather and great grandfather lived in Blount Co., AL from 1856-1868. They were in Cherokee County, Georgia from 1836 to after the 1840 census. Harold, I need to talk to you about the Underwood's. We talked briefly several years ago about the Dover/Underwood connection. The father of the two Dover daughters that married Underwood's is probably the uncle of Burton and Edmund Dover. Dennis
During the 1880's , I have numerous families (relatives) that left West Central Georgia for Blount County, Alabama: Some were from Floyd, Carroll, Coweta, and Bartow: The ones from Bartow had previously lived in Cherokee and prior to Cherokee, had lived in Gilmer. There must have been a good west to east overland route for their wagons and stock. Probably the road or trails were between Atlanta area and west towards the Birmingham area. Maybe, eventually highway 78. Their surnames were McCollough, Chappell, Underwood, and Burgess.
