    1. [GAGILMER-L] re: Fort Mountain
    2. It is my understanding that the area of Fort Mountain itself is in Murray County. My brother lives on the southeastern side and his address is Chatsworth. The county line of Murray/Gilmer is a few miles from Fort Mountain. This is not to say that the boundaries did not change over the years. You would have to look into the history of the boundaries of the two counties. Good Luck! Angela Pierce Groenhout researching earliest settlers to Gilmer: Davenport (Thomas C.), Harper (Jesse), Whisenant (John Calloway), Parks (John), Triplett (William), Woody (William Derrill), Cochran/Cockerham (Amanda - married Woody).

    3. 2 Questions, My Great Aunt is listed as being born at Fort Mt., Ga. Is this Gilmer County or Murray or both depending on which side of the mountain you were born? Also can someone give me the name of the midwife in Gilmer County from at least 1912 to early 1920's. All I know is she was called Granny Sawyer. (She delivered my Mother and 5 of her siblings in East Elijay) Thanks for any help. Lynda

    3. Are there any more of the CENSUS of Gilmer Co., Ga on the internet? I would like to see the 1870's, 1880's and 1900's. And of course the big one is the 1890's but I know that we can not see them due to the fire. psueg@bellsouth.net Peggy Sue O'Shields-Gaddis ----- Original Message ----- From: "patnj" <patnj@gateway.net> To: <GAGILMER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 25, 2000 3:34 PM Subject: Re: [GAGILMER-L] My Wetzels, Whetzels, or Whitzels, or other spellings > Wylene, > > 1840 Gilmer Co., GA census > > page 14 > > Wetzel, John C. 0-0-0-0-1 // 0-0-0-1 > > source: > > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/6370/gilmer/gilmer1840.html > > > ..........Pat > > WomannTx@aol.com wrote: > > > > If anyone has access to a Gilmer Co., GA census record for 1840, I would love > > to have the information given for John C. 3. I'm trying to identify a BARBAR(a)Y FOSTER. In the Gilmer County Census of 1850, she is shown living with the family of ELIJAH WILKINS, age 43? from NC, and his wife DICEY, age 38. I'd like to know the relationship between Barbary and the Wilkins. Is Dicey her daughter? Like to contact descendants of this Wilkins family. Does anyone know anything of them? Many people are buried without tombstones in those cemeteries. Some may have had markers, but were soft rock, wood, or a funeral home marker that has disintegrated. Check the Social Security Death Index, and write to the funeral homes in the county.
