That is correct. The "trains" that got into trouble were those under the command of the Cherokees (Ridge and Ross' later problems stemmed from this.). The earlier ones conducted by the Federal Government did not have those problems. After that the Cherokees were paid to move individually. Actually, the last one to be paid from Forsyth County was in the mid 1840s. He was paid for the 3rd time as he kept coming back. Congress then passed a law against being paid more than once. Of the Indians that were censused on the 1835 Roll in Forsyth County, the majority applied for Georgia Citizenship and remained here. That list is available in the Georgia Archives. Donna Parrish
