Then why don't you provide a direct link to the Archives County Site Page and do away with your county pages as they are really a duplication of what is at the Archives...all addresses for government offices, schools, churches, history of county, and all of that could all be right there at the archives..what do you need with a county page....why waste the space on the WWW when it is no longer needed in your situation...Why make the visitors go through the county site to just get to the Archives? Just put the link to the Archives on to he GAGenWeb Project County Index page and then save your visitors a bit of time? And spend your time just building up the Archives. But leave those who intend to keep material on the county level alone? Those who have no content on the county just have it online for what? make a direct link to the archives....do away with your county page...and just set up :"all" in the archives...there are already links there to go to the Mail Lists and Message Boards and most of the County Archivists have also provided other material which meets the county requirements...That is what I am saying....but there are those of us who plan to keep the material at the county website and do not intend to change from that. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robertson" <lrober@plantationcable.net> To: <GAGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2003 9:28 AM Subject: Re: [GAGEN] Ok, now I am mad > Although I am not mad about it, I agree with Michele that the Archives has a > very important part in our project. Peoples, Over the last day or so, I seem to have been the voice of reason. Here we go again (sounds like a peachy Ronald Reagan line, huh?). Seriously, there is a place for the Archives and there is a place for the County Pages. The idea is that they can all work together to make it happen. As a general rule, I encourage all of my contributors to send anything to contribute both to me and to the Archives. In this manner, the data is kept in two places. That means it is never lost. I have zero problems with anyone linking to the Archives from their county pages. It actually makes it much easier to handle, and it frees us up for more important duties - like transcribing, answering questions and the other things we do as CC's. So, let's all agree to disagree on this. Some of us have an appreciation for the Archives. Some of us see the Archives as competition. But there is a way to make the two work together. Let's focus on that.
