I had what I thought was a good page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaforsyt/ Brenda Webb started it, I came on as co CC and then we swapped places. The SC complimented the page on the mail list. From that point on there was a hassle. I sat here and watched really good sites go down. When I questioned why, the answers did not coincide with what the leaving CCs were telling me. Then we started working on by-laws. I was advised to split up the material, putting the Historical Society and ALHN/AHGP material on different websites so the RC's could "grab what they needed" when I was gone. So I split the material before the by-laws were passed. When I was trying to help another CC with her HTML skills, I received letters accusing me of being unprofessional and "if you were in the private sector you would be fired" (apparently only RCs could help). At that point I resigned many of my pages. I had already turned Lumpkin over to Dan. He was willing to take Hall also and I passed on all material on both. He has handled them very well. However, White and Gordon and Dawson did not fare as well. I gave Dawson to my co CC, Brenda Webb. She was delinked from genweb over her Dawson page without the 30 day notice required by the by-laws. She was also removed as my co CC on Forsyth and they would not reinstate her. (This proof was submitted to the AB). At that point, Brenda Webb asked that her material be placed elsewhere as did many other Forsyth submitters. It was moved. I refer you to the GAGEN Archives to see that I tried to pass on the material for Gordon and White. Since we reorganized, I was able to pass on White (webspace and all) to Vicki Shaffer and she is doing a good job. Beth is doing a good job on Gordon (http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagordo3/) as opposed to the intervening one and I would like to transfer some more over to her. The secret to "control" is to make rules clear and have everyone abide by them equally. People that feel unfairly treated feel no loyalty to the project. Material that goes to the archives goes on permanent loan. Material that goes to the county sites goes with the copyright remaining with the submitters. Ask the submitters to allow you to use it. I personally have the copyright to four books on Forsyth County, plus newspaper columns and panphlets. I also am named as contributer on several other books and articles on the County. This represents 34 years of work. There is some of my material that I will not relinquish the rights on. Other material will transfer to the Historical Society of Forsyth County, Inc. We have a good shot at making this project what it should be. Now is not the time to start the archives versus county pages argument or to try to take someone's work by rules tather than by asking. Being pleasant and playing fair will go a long way towards building this project. Donna: No one from the Archives is trying to take anything. There is no "versus" in this. This thread was not started by the Archives. --- [email protected] wrote: <big snip> > We have a good shot at making this project what it > should be. When I bite the dust, or my toes are turned up, or I follow the lonesome trail, I just want some way to make sure that my county sites stay with GAGenWeb Project. I have asked may times for files and permission has always been granted. Everyone has always been most cooperative, and since someone else brought the subject...especially Archives. Don't know how they even entered the discussion. I guess I did not state myself clearly, so I hereby withdraw my comments and close this thread.
