    3. Two list system - been there, done that, didn't work. I will go with what the majority wants. I can tell you that this is tax season for me and I know how to both scan and delete messages, quickly. Using "welcome" to a new comer as an example, we would all like to welcome the person. It is easier to reply and let the welcome go to the whole list, than it is to go to the county list and find the new persons address. Happy Family Hunting, kemis massey [email protected] CC for Chattahoochee, Clayton and Muscogee Counties List Admin for Chattahoochee, Harris, and Muscogee Counties Researching: for hubbie: MASSEY, BROOKS, FOUNTAIN, SMITH for me: SONGER, CAMP, EVANS, ROSAMOND for preservation: CLAPP Cemetery, Community, Factory, and Families - Muscogee County ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael and Vivian Saffold Hello, everyone, I have had several requests, both privately and expressed to this list, for a separate mailing list for "chat." Many of us endured terrible experiences with a two-list system administered by the previous project. I know that for the most part we have moved on from that unfortunate era, but for that reason I have been very hesitant to establish a second list. Personally, I would like to see us have as few project rules and restrictions as possible. I would much rather people remember that their fellow volunteers are busy and keep their posts to a minimum. Responses to posts like baby announcements certainly can be sent to the individual, rather than to the list. However, I certainly will do what the majority wishes. If we do agree to have a separate list, I *will not* penalize anyone for posting "chat" to the business list, and I know no one involved in this project will be so discourteous as to call another volunteer to task publicly or privately for his/her post. Please let me know how you feel about this issue. Do you favor a separate list? If so, what should be considered "business?" For example: Obviously baby announcements could go to the chat list, but what about issues such as our recent discussion of spyware? You may respond to me privately. I will compile the responses and post a brief summary, along with a decision. Please do let me hear from you, even if you have no opinion. **This post will serve as the First Quarter 2005 roll call.** Vivian

    3. One advantage of two lists is that we can filter the chat list to another email folder until we have time to read them. This is what I would do. I have no problem reading the messages, it's just a matter of when. However, unless the SC is behind a second list fully I doubt it will work. W/O calling attention (in private) to a CC who posts a non-business message to the business list, it will eventually become the norm again. So there would really be no point in attempting it. As far as how it worked in the past, well, lots of things didn't work in the past, but that wasn't the CCs' fault. I think we should give ourselves much more credit than the past would give. --Keith Kemis Massey wrote: >Two list system - been there, done that, didn't work. I will go with what the majority wants. 3. If we do go to two lists, I think it should be the list administrator who privately reminds anyone who has posted improperly. That way, we avoid the possibility of a disagreement. I am getting lots of good comments and anticipate that we can work out an good solution. 3. I hope you'll reconsider Kim. I truly don't believe Keith had any intention other than suggesting a separate list for business and one for general discussion. I enjoy the personal news but don't always have time to give it the attention it deserves. I can live with filtering it out my own way or with a second list. In TXGenWeb, there are two lists and it seems to work fine. I could live without ever hearing the term "stirring the pot" again so I hope we can all respect each others differences of opinion. I can understand those who want a list where personal announcements can be made and replied to without upsetting the apple cart and I can also understand that there are persons who are not interested at all in those discussions. Each to his own - there is nothing wrong with either opinion. BTW, Vivian, I am "present"! I guess the suggestion of two lists sounds the best all around to me - we just all need to realize it means another person volunteering for yet another job or duty. I trust Vivian to come up with a solution we can all live with and move forward.
