I understand that reissued passwords will take place on Monday -- for those who didn't get their password. It is important that you speak up and let everyone know you didn't get one! nduffy@patch.net Nola can take care of this for you. Remember, your vote means so much not only for GAGenWeb, but also the entire USGenWeb. Leadership is important! If you have any questions about the candidates, visit their campaign pages, and also ask some of us who have worked with them over the years. Some issues come up every Election time -- and this year it seems there is much misrepresentation of the facts regarding our GAGenWeb. This is why it is so critical that we in GAGenWeb do vote!!!
I got Pickens County on March 21, 1996. The email confirming my new account came directly from Dr. Brian Leverich, the co-founder of RootsWeb -- that shows how it was "in the old days". It was such fun back then -- all of us learning how to write HTML and work with images. We were bizzy-bizzy transcribing everything that would sit still long enough. Everyone in GAGenWeb was like family. Heck, we even found distant kinfolk among our fellow CCs sometimes. So, RootsWeb grew, as we hoped it would. It grew to bigger than the USA. And with the wealth of information that we all worked to gather and share came "management issues". As factions formed and differences were aired, especially during elections times, some folks begin to make holes in the sand to poke their heads in. >From so many corners I have heard "I don't like the politics -- I just want to do genealogy." That's how I feel, too. But ... if we don't understand the issues, learn about the candidates, and cast a vote -- we are apt to find that it will not just be Genealogy-As-Usual in this organization. Please, don't be a G.O. (GAGenWeb Ostrich)! Investigate these candidates for National Coordinator and for our SEMA representative. Look at their websites. And cast your vote! Sylvia Rankin
I can't begin to tell you of the importance of voting in the National Elections. We all need to get out there and have our voice heard. I, like most of you would rather just work on my websites, but, having a good, fair and impartial advisory board is extremely important. We have an amendment to the bylaws this time on the ballot. Grievances at some point in time could affect us all. Our National Coordinator Scott Burow and volunteers worked hard to get this thru and it affects us all. Please take the time to visit the page, read up on it and vote. We need some changes in the project on this and you need to decide whether this will help us in that endeavor. If you think it will, vote for it, if not, please help us in drafting something that you think will help that can be passed at a future date. Also visit the candidates page, read their webpages and ask questions of people who know these candidates. It is so very important that we get a good group on the Advisory Board to represent us all. I would never try to foist my own views upon any of you, all I ask is that you become well informed and VOTE. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/national-2007/index-2007.htm Thanks, Jan Cortez Banks Co. GA. NE/NC CC Rep - USGenWeb
What Jan says is so true. We need good representation on the Advisory Board. That can only happen if CCs take the time to vote. Perusing the candidates' campaign pages is a good way to see what they have to say about themselves. Asking questions of people who know the candidates is a good way to learn more about them. Linda Geiger and I are adding new features to the Gilmer County site, and we are moving it to http://gilmer.thegaproject.org If you link to our site, could you please update your links? Surrounding counties: Pickens (oops, that's us!), Murry, Fannin, Lumpkin, Dawson and Gordon. The site will be mirrored at RootsWeb for just a short while. Thanks! Sylvia and Linda
