    3. I know most of the counties have queries sections, but maybe a section on the board for requests for lookups; ex: census, books we own, etc. Sandy Smith McDuffie CC -----Original Message----- From: gagen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gagen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sylvia C. Rankin Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2007 5:23 PM To: gagen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GAGEN] New Bulletin Board Virginia (and all), Linda Geiger and I just picked some categories this morning to get us out the starting gate. We certainly invite CCs to let us know if other categories could/should be set up in the Bulletin Board. Anyone (in the world) can register to post. And it's simple -- about an hour after the board went live this morning, we had a 'guest' logon and post a surname query! You just click "Register" and fill in some information -- you set your own logon/password. And then you post! It's that easy. We were hoping that CCs would kinda watch the board -- just look at it when you have any free time. Ed and Vivian can delete posts which may have inappropriate language. Hopefully, that won't occur. But if anyone sees something off-color -- let us know. Couple of questions: Can anyone "read" the messages without being registered? I was especially interested in pointing to it for "new researchers for GA" --- that would save us so much time in responding to individual emails. We could refer them for "more information" to this page after we've made any personal suggestions for their research. I like the categories that have been set up.... I would like to link to this Bulletin Board on my County Pages, but wanted to be sure I gave the proper instructions when I did do it. Is the above URL the one I should use ? 3. It has been brought to my attention that RAs and others may want posting ability in the blog. Certainly anyone that Ed or Vivian would like to have use it may do so. It's up to them! Different groups within the GAGenWeb project may want a posting category -- like the Archives folks perhaps? You need a logon and password to author and/or edit information -- and those can be done by anyone with blog administrative rights -- so, Ed, Vivian, Linda Geiger, Sylvia Rankin or Roger Nalls can set those up. Once it has been ascertained who can author posts/pages, those folks can contact one of us off the list for logons. Anyone can comment to a post. Comments can be moderated by administrators -- but only to the extent that inappropriate material may be posted by the general public. This is really for the use of the GAGenWeb project team. Blogs are highly searchable and have an RSS feed, so they are a powerful addition to a website. If you have a feed reader, you can subscribe to the blog's feed -- and you will receive notification in the reader whenever someone posts new information to the blog. Wikipedia defines feed readers: A news aggregator is a software application or remotely hosted service that collects syndicated content from disparate sources and provides a single consolidated view. These applications can also be commonly referred to as a feed reader, feed aggregator or simply just an aggregator. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_Feed_Reader To get a free reader, search Google for "free rss feed readers".

    3. Pat, Thanks! I have been having problems with bellsouth/at&t for months - mostly with rootsweb lists. I bounced off of a board list last night while receiving mail from other rootsweb lists at the same time! I have gone through periods off and on of receiving mail days later than it was posted, etc..... I hate the thought of changing my email address for my sites again, but it may be in the works soon!
