    1. [GAGEN] Scam warning
    2. I received this from a list I am on and wanted to share it with you so we can all get the word out: Family Discovery is up to old tricks Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on. 1. [GAGEN] Request to Correct Georgia Counties Selection Table
    2. Tim, Please correct the Georgia County Selection Table Forsyth County http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaforsyt/gagen/ from Donna Parrish gahistory@donnaparrish.com to Donna Parrish mflp@aol.com Brenda Webb ambleside@mindspring.com Chris and Les Howard had the page in 1997 By 1998 Brensa Webb was the coordinator I joined her as co CC later. Her name was removed from the Table during family illness and apparently never replaced. Brenda also needs to be resubbed to GAGEN. Apparently, she was removed from GAGEN in January when her Dawson County Genweb page was delinked http://www.rootsweb.com/~gadawson/gagen/ While I can receive email at gahistory, rootsweb will not accept mail from that address. 1. Re: [GAGEN] COPYRIGHT-COUNTY WEB PAGES
    2. Jim & Gaila
    3. Hello I have to say that I agree with you,Liz. My understanding was the copyright is there to protect the page and information from certain companies who were linking to the pages and charging admission. Also to stop the wholesale removal of information for the sale by companies that would then offer our materials for sale. We started this for free genealogy. Some of the pages I took over several years ago are exactly as Carol Middleton left them. If someone had personal information or a special page, they took those off before handover. I don't own the information on the Houston County homepage, I have been lucky to have so many great contributors. Whoever takes over from me, is welcome to the information because it is all about contributors sharing the information with the "Houston County Community" not me per se. I have from the beginning added a "roles" of contributor and I hope when I turn the page over, that my name will be added to it, but if it isn't then "c'est la vie". 3. Forget the name of it bur one copy of GA Passports 1700s to 180s is in our local library. Has NC as well as GA and maybe some other states to. Will get that copied down the next time I am there. But the author was not as stated on one of these emails posted here. But did not take the time to write it down. This book was more current. And the publishers name and address was there, but again I only took a few minutes to leaf through it. But will check later this week. 3. I have a copy of "Passports Issued by Governors of Georgia, 1810 to 1820" by Mary G. Bryan, Directory of Georgia Department of Archives and History (Arlington, VA: National Genealogical Society, 1964). Is that what you needed? I think there is another volume covering another time period, but I don't have that one. 3. > Why would you be worried? You've never had a job where you've seen someone hauled off to the office and not know why, not be told, and then not start questioning yourself about if you've as well screwed up and when your turn is? I think all of us have. And the longer the anxieties go on, the longer the worry and the fear grows. > I have never been in any organization that will share the reprimands > of one person to the entire staff. You may see them take the walk to > the office and you may see the sad face , but you will never see > announcements by management what actions if any were done to correct > an infraction and nor should you. I have been in both types of organizations. Let me be more specific with that. I have worked for companies that have kept everything hush- hush, and then I have worked for companies that don't discuss specific cases, but have been blunt and clear about rules violations in general. I can honestly say the latter is the much more enjoyable company to be involved with. A company that states publicly termination reasons, earns employee respect for honesty and not trying to hide things. Proving issues aren't a personality conflict but rather a rules violation. > No removal procedure may be implemented against the same SC, or ASC, > within six months of a failed attempt, unless evidence is presented to > the Advisory Board that retaliatory actions are being taken, or > attempted, against the initiators of the original action. Evidence > that is proven false, may result in the removal of the CC. It's Very Important to remember that the current petition as has been stated on Board-L was made before the Bylaw. This means it doesn't fall under those rules as the NC has stated. I'm going to also assume that it means that another Petition not need to wait 6 months should someone want to do one. It's either part of the quoted motion, or it's not. It can't be both ways and straddling the fence. I also believe that now the Recall Motion Procedures have passed, that there does not need to be an attempt to settle an issue at the state level. That's nowhere in the Motion. <This doesn't mean I am against local solutions>. But again, this was before that Motion was passed. I think it's okay to be discussing Policy, as long as we leave people and personalities out of it. These are important issues. Derek Nichols Echols County

    3. Did Tim follow the Guidelines when terminating CC's ? He now has some of us worried that we will too be terminated with out due process if we cross him or do any other thing not to his liking. Those who have been dismissed without due process will not be able to speak for themselves as they are no longer on this list. The following is the only thing I found that a CC could be removed for immediately. "A coordinator who sells, or solicits items not covered >within the exceptions above will be immediately >dismissed from GAGenWeb." Anything other than this a CC should have 30 days to correct it according to the Guidelines.
