When some of the people call, they will say that there are no legible markers or they don't remember exactly how to get to the graveyard because they went as kids. Ask what they know about it. Occasionally this will lead to shared Bible records or Great Aunt Sally's family history work from 30 years ago or an old book that a relative printed for the family. I got my first look at an original Emmett Starr book that way, plus a story to go with it about how the woman's father helped with the book and Mr. Starr sent him a copy. I was also shown a pair of pewter candlesticks that were wrapped in a civil war era newspaper that were in the wall of an old outbuilding they had torn down. The family reckoned that they were hidden from the Yankees. Enjoy every minute of it. Donna

A reporter with the Augusta Chronicle interviewed me today for a story. He is coming out here tomorrow so that he can take a picture in a cemetery with me "surveying" it :) I had written a letter to the editor of the McDuffie County Progress newspaper asking that if anyone in McDuffie Co has a family cemetery plot on their private property to please call me so that I could come out and survey it. McDuffie is very rural and most of the graves out here are on private property. The only way I will find them is if someone tells me where they are. Anyway, the Chronicle reporter read the letter to the editor in the Progress and thought it would make a good story. The Chronicle just ran a story about a family cemetery that had been vandalized. They interviewed a genealogist that is writing a cemetery book in Columbia Co. He had already surveyed this cemetery (he is related to the occupants) and had cleaned the cemetery up. Then the vandals hit. I think the timing for my story is good because I think people out there will want their family plots recorded so that the info is not lost. I am very happy about this opprotunity! michele lewis GaGenWeb Coordinator McDuffie Co, GA *** All outgoing mail checked by Norton AntiVirus ***

Congrats to Margie Daniels, Millie Stewart, Guelda Hay and Davine Campbell: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/spotlight/ Tim
I want to congratulate these fine women. I would like to say that these are the finest women I have ever had the privilege to know and work with. They certainly deserve to be recognized by Rootsweb. They are untiring in their efforts to help others. The resources they have at in their home libraries rival some libraries. Millie, Davine and Guelda are tireless in their efforts to do look ups, visit the library and courthouses in the area to help researchers. They transcribed every cemetery in Macon County Georgia and the marriage records. Davnie has submitted thousands of obits and continues transcribing more. These women are well known and respected for their diligence and dedication to genealogy. Lt. Col. Guelda Hay and Millie Stewart were instrumental in getting They Tarried in Taylor county published. We work as a team, I transcribe newspapers and manage the web page. Millie, Davine and Guelda are the backbone with all their knowledge and work they have done for many years. They know every back road in the area and have linked the obits to where the person is buried and their family history. Thank you to an outstanding group of women!!! I am humbled in the shadow of greatness in these women. Margie Daniels Macon County Georgia CC --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). THANKS!!! I was actually ASC for NJ once before (briefly) until we got 2 SCs--one of which was Peggy Tebbetts who has now given up some of her duties at USGenWeb to attend to family things. With Peggy gone, our remaining SC offered me the chance to come back. I'm also a candidate for the SE/MA Advisory Board position... and fielding any questions and/or comments for that! --Heather ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Stowell" <tstowell@chattanooga.net> To: <GAGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2003 2:45 AM Subject: [GAGEN] Congrats! > Congrats to Heather J.
