A few days ago (April 17th), Michelle Lewis (CC of McDuffie), requested consideration for an appointment to the position of RC of the East Central Region. Did I miss something here? I am just wondering if there was a response to her request and/or if she is (already) the new RC of East Central Region.

Hi all I am finally "back", & want to thank you all that sent emails, snail mails, prayers, phone calls, online cards, etc. Your warmth is astounding, & I am very touched by it. I would write each one of you a thank you note (the true Southern way!!) but figured I would reach you all this way. I am happy to report that we got celebrate another birthday with our daughter (hers), & that nothing was broken. The tornado threw her over 12 feet (hubby says at least 20 ft) against a brick wall, & she only suffered a concussion! PTL!! She is over the headaches & back in school making those good grades!! (Wish she'd done that in High School!! lol) The damages to our "stepson-in-law's" home (a step away from marriage <g>) were $35,000-$40,000, & renovations have now started, & hopefully he can move back in soon. Please note my new address <nana321@earthlink.net>. My old ISP is no longer servicing our area, but I can retrieve some mail. I got a new pc for my birthday last month & have been trying to move all my files over to it. I will try & get all of you answered as soon as I can, & want you to know that I'm not ignoring any of you. Thanks again! IMHO!!!!!! I need some clarification. I thought GAGen-L@rootsweb.com was an email list for the CC's, SC's, RC's and others who maintain pages for those researching family, county, or state history to share with all. Obviously I was mistaken, so where is the list where we learn and share how to do the best job that is possible. Why do I feel like this list isn't where I need to be? I didn't check my email yesterday out of 125 messages 78 were GAGen. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but in addition to the GAGen list, I belong to over 25 mailing lists (as I am sure many of you belong to more). I don't have time to do the best job I can at everything and read as many UNNECESSARY messages as have been sent the last several months. And I do read as many as possible but have found myself deleting to many messages from this list. I hope that wasn't the key to my brick wall in one of those messages. If the GAGen-L email list isn't the one that is to help me, then which list is so I can subscribe to it. Can the bickering be taken to someplace where it belongs? This isn't the first message that I've written (all deleted as I don't want to be a target or start a new series of emails), but it is the first that I've sent. kemis
You might want to recommend that they copy/paste the information to a word processor. That way they can save it, print it or copy it to their genealogy software. Linda they can print html just as easy as .txt but most printers do take longer to print color and the color ink is more expensive for most printers so they will prefer not to print. If they are adept at printing they can set the printer to print black and white but many do not know how to do this. As for controlling what is printed or not printed off the web also keep in mind that even if it's a book that is copyrighted, the average user can legally print/copy up to 20% of that book provided it's for their own personal use. Thank goodness this is true as I'm one of those who loves to print/copy information when I find something on my family lines. Whether I go into a library and find my family history in a local (copyrighted) history book or find something related to my family on a web page, I have the right to copy it for my own personal use and I'm not violating copyright as long as I am not publishing it elsewhere. It just occurred to me that the polls close at 8 AM (Bloomington Indiana time) on Monday. Larry Stephens only works Monday through Friday. He has gone home for the night today. If any of you need passwords, tomorrow will be your last chance to get a re-issue before the polls close on Monday. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! I agree with both Margie and Jan that the remarks were out of line. And there should be an apology. Had Linda or Virginian paid attention to what some of their Coordinators were doing in pressuring contributors as well as the County Coordinators there might not be the problems that exist now. The Archives was before and is now a secondary project to the County WebPages. We all need to get busy and post some no frills pages on our sites for those who want just white backgrounds and black ink. They say it is easier to print copies of the material when it is in the Archives. And must more difficult to copy when it is on a county page which has a colored background. Sounds as if a lot of printing of records is going on. Not that I mind but wonder if anyone else does. So do we make it easier for folks to print out the records or do we leave the material on pages with backgrounds which discourage those who want to copy the records? Just some thoughts to pass along. To all those who were offended by Linda's note (and I feel certain she did not mean to offend anyone) and since Linda is not on this GAGenWeb list, may I express my own personal apology. Margie, Jan, Gloria, and Tim --- I always welcome your input. If there is a specific event which you are referring to, please write me privately. I apologize to the entire CC list for adding more mail to your mail boxes. E-mail can sometimes be misunderstood, and I never want to appear rude to any individuals. We're all part of the GAGenWeb team, and I respect every one of you! Virginia Crilley
Personally I have to agree with Margie here. Perhaps this statement made by Linda, was in jest, or not meant the way it was implied, but really uncalled for. I am a file manager and I personally think that we have to respect the CC's and their opinions. Some like the Archives, some do not. Okay - so be it. None of us see eye to eye. I would rather have a good working relationship with the CC's in my state than compete for better stats. MI is in 13th place and at one time we were near the top. So, guess we are sliding, but, we don't have any infighting over the Archives. I recently took on a very large project of adding marriages to the Archives, which are on most of the county pages. Some of the CC's like to update them on a monthly basis and some do not. For the some that do not, the Archives is perfect. The arrangement is that the people who donated will also give them to the CC's - so if they want to post, that's okay, but if they don't, then all they have to do is add a link to the Archives marriage pages and their work is over. I would rather see this than to not have the information available at all. It's a good working relationship built on respect. So I guess my bottom line here is the statement that Linda made was IMO a little less than respectful. Each and everything should start with respect and maintain that status quo.
