As her SC in Texas, I told the EC that she is qualified to run for every position they asked me about. I also let the EC know that she had been in the GA and TX archives long enough to run for that position, since I was asked. The only postion I can't qualify her for is SE/MA CC rep, as I am not her SC in that region. David Morgan TX SC and TX FM
After searching the archives, I found this: <A HREF="http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/USGENWEB-SW/2003-06">RootsWeb: USGENWEB-SW-L Archive (June 2003)</A> I too demand an explanation. If anyone has a link to the letter referred to - about Bettie, please post a link. Please do not forward the letter because there are some very small people who will then threaten you with a lawsuit for violating copyright laws. And as far as this "not" being the place for this discussion, just where is? This is exactly the place where this belongs. It seems to me suggesting that we shouldn't bring this to our State mailing list where all CCs are made aware of what is going on, is YET one more attempt to sweep dirty deals under the rug. Vivian, Here is the page listing nominees for SEMA CC Rep which shows Bettie Woods status as "Ineligible". http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/nominee4.htm#sema%20cc%20rep%20to%20c omplete%20term It is my understanding that the election committee can only accept information about eligible voters and therefore eligible candidates from the State Coordinator. This is the only information I found concerning members not in good standing or members in good standing in the USGenWeb project bylaws - Section 9. Nominees for National Coordinator shall have the following qualifications: at least one year (the twelve months immediately preceding an election) of continuous service and current activity as a member in good standing, and eligibility to vote within The USGenWeb Project. Qualifications of nominees for State Coordinator Representative, Local Coordinator Representative, and Special Project Representative are the same with the addition that their service shall have been as a State Coordinator, Local Coordinator, or one of the various positions associated with the Special Projects, respectively. "In good standing" is demonstrated by responding promptly to email, actively supporting researchers' efforts to find information, maintaining their website with appropriate, up-to-date content, and serving as a good example of the guidelines and standards of The USGenWeb Project This is the only section of the Georgia Guidelines that addresses members in good standing or not in good standing - 5. Statewide Elections. Eligibility for the State Coordinator seat shall be: a GAGenWeb member considered to be in good standing, who has acted as a CC, RC, or SPC within GAGenWeb for one year or more, and is willing to act as the State Coordinator in accordance with the Bylaws of USGenWeb and the Guidelines of GAGenWeb. No later than 10 days after a seat becomes vacated, a call for nominations will be made by the USGenWeb Election Committee Chair, who will be given posting privileges on GAGEN-L.. Nominations for the seat will be received by the Election Committee for a period of two weeks, pending verification of eligibility by the SC or Acting SC. A campaigning period of two weeks shall follow. A voting period of two weeks shall then commence with the winner(s) decided by a majority of those voting. The winner shall be installed in the seat the day following certification of the results. Voting on special issue elections, such as sponsoring a USGenWeb Bylaws amendment or amendments to these guidelines, shall commence after two weeks' discussion in a public forum closed to non-GAGenWeb members. Voting will be accomplished by using the GAGEN-L mailing list, or the USGenWeb's Election Committee if the issue is a GAGenWeb Guidelines amendment. Bettie Wood is a County Coordinator for two counties within Georgia GenWeb. IF at some point, she had been declared "not in good standing" by GAGenWeb, would she still be a county coordinator? I too, would like to know why our State Coordinator has reported to the Election committee that Bettie Wood is "ineligible" to participate in this election. I have many personal obligations coming up in the next year and the position of National Coordinator requires a candidate that will devote a lot of hard and intelligent work to the project. I anticipate having cataract surgery sometime at the end of the year and the reading load would be too much to put on a volunteer reader. Also, I have obligations as the CEO of a utility company, which will have to handle in the next year new rules and suggestions from homeland security, cost problems due to the failing economy and the very real issue of water supply in North Georgia. Again, let me say that I am flattered by the nomination. I believe in the project. I will continue to help and/or offer support when and where I can. Hello Folks, I have been reading recent comments about the USGW needing "new blood." Well I'm one of those "newbies" who is definitely interested. I subscribed to the USGW-Discuss forum to learn more about the positions open in the upcoming election. I recently requested a nomination for the NE/NC County Coordinator Representative as I thought it would be a good way to become more involved in USGenWeb. I maintain three New Hampshire township web sites -- two since 2001 (Merrimack NH at http://www.jwbrown-home.com/Merrimack/merrimack.htm), Mont Vernon NH at http://www.jwbrown-home.com/Merrimack/merrimack.htm) and very recently I adopted Peterborough NH at http://www.jwbrown-home.com/Peterborough/peterborough.htm). I perform lookups in the NH town histories (that I host) and sometimes in censuses when visitors request same, usually in the same day. I originally lived in New Hampshire, and moved to New Jersey 2 years ago. In the past few days I contacted the New Jersey State Coordinator to see if I could assist with the NJ USGenWeb project, specifically as a County Coordinator. I have two Associate degrees - one in Marketing and one in Computer Software Applications. I worked for 24 years as a professional fund raiser (in middle management positions), and also worked as a consultant for non-profit board and volunteer development for 4 years. I have served on three non-profit boards of directors -- a Credit Union, an organization serving addicted homeless people, and an organization that served frail and elderly clients. I currently am a part-time web designer working from home, with clients who are non-profit associations and societies. I have all the web site work I want in order to leave me with free time for other interests. I am an amateur genealogist with 25 years experience, and I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, the Stanstead (Quebec) Historical Society and the Gloucester County (NJ) Historical Society. I am a strong proponent of free access to genealogical information on [and off] the internet. As far as I can tell, National Coordinator Eligibility includes at least one year (the twelve months immediately preceding an election) of continuous service and current activity as a member in good standing, and eligibility to vote within The USGenWeb Project. I certainly meet those qualifications. If I receive positive feedback from this group, I would be willing to change my nomination from NE/NC County Coordinator Representative to National Coordinator, even though I am an "unknown" as far as your current board is concerned, if you feel that I am qualified. I have the time, energy and knowledge of volunteerism, web design and genealogy. I am not afraid to run, nor to lose. I simply would like to become more involved, at whatever level. Janice Brown
Good evening, everyone. I'd like to report on the status of the GRC work. We've received quite a few suggestions for the CC Bill of Rights, as well as suggestions for responsibilities and guidelines. I've created pages showing all the suggestions that were submitted to the GRC. If I have overlooked something, I apologize. Please let me know *offlist*. Please note that I haven't had a chance to add the suggestions that were posted directly to this list -- please forgive me, there's only 24 hours in a day :-). But be assured that we aren't ignoring those. We've discussed the various suggestions and are in the process of incorporating them in the first draft of the Bill of Rights. We've also begun looking at the differences between the National By-laws and Guidelines and the GA Guidelines. We are making every effort to have something ready for you by July 1, 2003, in time for the elections. The update GRC page is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacolqu2/Guidelines/. It includes links to the suggestions that we have received. Respectfully submitted, Jacki, acting Secretary, GRC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Colquitt County GAGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacolqu2/ Southwest Regional Coordinator
