Please welcome Donna Allen as the new coordinator of the McIntosh County site. Donna has counties in Tennessee and Virginia and coordinates the Census Project in Massachusetts. Vivian
Sorry, That last post was supposed to be private... fast fingers... <sigh> Lorraine
Vivian, As to the adoption of McIntosh... I see the page there says it's still up for adoption... Any chance I can have it? That's a great list --- and would save all of us lots of time in responding to people who have never researched in Georgia before. And if we all worked with Vivian on contributing suggestions along this line, it really would help researchers ...and we could all just link to it. I've found that the Archives change their links so often --- probably due to their fast growth, but it sure plays havoc with our linking to them. Maybe someone could help us get these links all working again..... For instance, where is this one now: http://www.sos.state.ga.us/archives/rs/1827.htm It used to be there to explain qualifications for the lottery, etc. (In fact I'd love it if every state would do something like this, as I am usually totally lost when I have to start in a brand new state) Virginia At 06:41 AM 5/13/2005 -0700, you wrote: >I have on the Screven/Burke County pages, a section for begining research >in Georgia. Hello, all, The great majority of our county pages are doing quite well, but you may have noticed that the state page could use some work. I need everyone's help to make the state page more helpful to researchers. We need to improve the Georgia History section, which now includes: African American, Native American and Military. We also need to give researchers some basic guidance on how to conduct research in Georgia. If you are willing to coordinate efforts in any of these areas or you have ideas, please let me know. Vivian
David Morgan has relinquished his Clarke County site. Natalie Davis, who has Oconee, will be taking Clarke. We thank David for his service and wish him well. Vivian
I have on the Screven/Burke County pages, a section for begining research in Georgia. It is a listing of links to the various Georgia Archives pages which discuss starting a Georgia research project. You certainly may include the policy on your sites, but it is not required. It will be posted on the state page. If you wish to send a copy of the policy to researchers wanting to post data on living persons, feel free to do so. I wish to thank the CCs of GAGenWeb for passing this policy. Thanks also to Vivian, Liz, Ed, and Linda for seeing it through the draft stage. Vivian, the page at http://www.giddeon.com/wilkes/privacy/ is at your disposal. Please feel free to lift it, edit the code or whatever, for placement on the state site. I'll be looking forward to adding a hyperlink to the privacy banner I have placed on Wilkes County's site. Hi all, Today my hubbie and I went to a flea market in Smiths (Lee County) AL. I purchased a book entitled Family Records Mississippi Revolutionary Soldiers by Alice Tracy Welsh Miss Society D.A.R. If you had family in Mississippi during the Revolutionary War time I'll be willing to do a look-up for you. Also in the book was a typed listing of the William WILLIAMS [b. 03 Mar 1770] and Dorathy TRAYNIUN [b 07 May 1778] children. At the of the list is handwritten Abbeville District of South Carolina. I can scan and forward a copy to interested parties. Please cast your vote for or against the proposed Privacy Policy for the GAGenWeb Project by sending an email to me by 8 a.m. EST Wednesday 11 May at: [email protected] *Please do not reply to the list.* The text of the proposed policy appears below. If approved, this will become the official policy and guideline of the project. It will not become a part of the project bylaws. Vivian The GAGenWeb Project is dedicated to the free exchange of genealogical information on the World Wide Web. Our goal is to provide free genealogical information for the family researcher in a manner that will protect the privacy of living persons by not sharing personal information about them without their permission. In order to provide the most protection, some genealogical information may not be available to the researcher. Being aware that the sharing of information online is essential to family history research, and that living persons have a right to privacy, The GAGenWeb Project and the volunteers who make up the Project will abide by the following guidelines when publishing personal information of any person on a Project site. Project Volunteers should: recognize that the legal right to privacy may limit how information is used on their Web site(s). never knowingly include information of living persons on their site(s) without that person's prior approval. provide information, as needed, to contributors on the need to protect the privacy of their living relatives. ask contributors if permission has been granted by living people for the sharing of personal information about them. remove any information upon receipt of a request by the person listed at the earliest possible time. Allowable exceptions to this policy are: Census records transcriptions or other facsimiles of U. S. Census Bureau schedules are acceptable for use on Project sites, though a Project volunteer should remove any person's census record upon request by that person. Marriage records transcriptions or other facsimiles of county marriage records are acceptable for use on Project sites, though a Project volunteer may choose a specific cut-off date for their local or special project. A Project volunteer should remove any person's name from a marriage record upon request by that person. Cemetery surveys compiled cemetery headstones are acceptable for use on Project sites, though a Project volunteer should remove any living person's headstone transcription upon request by that person. Obituaries the names of surviving family members, pallbearers, and friends listed in obituaries may be published, if all other personal information (such as place of street address, employer, etc.) on those persons is redacted.
