One of my clients, the Cagle family of Cherokee County, has asked me to scan or photograph or otherwise reproduce all of their family reunion minutes which are in a single collection --- for almost EVERY year since before the Civil War!! They have a reunion at Bethany Church annually (?) now. These will be posted on the Pickens County website for the family's use and for our researchers also! I am so excited about this new "find". This By-Law seems simple enough and worded well and I support it. > I only saw one nomination --- Ed Gordon. This site on NARA gives WWII Army and Army Air Force Casualty List as well as Navy, Marine, Coast Guard. It also has a listing for each county, rank, KIA, DNB and DOW as well as serial numbers. I typed up the list for Carroll, Haralson and Monroe Counties and have it on the web pages. http://www.archives.gov/research_room/arc/index.html I am going to add the link you sent, Virginia, it is such a great tribute. Hi Jacki and All: The EC requires impartiality in the state elections. This means any EC member who is a part of the state must be temporarily unsubbed from all EC lists and suspended from working on any election until the state election is over. This then throws the extra work on the other EC members who are left. Therefore, they are not willing to handle both the national election and state elections at the same time anymore. (Many states have different rules about eligibility which complicates things too.) I would like to think we can handle the By-Laws approval internally. As for the SC election, I can set up a ballot form and get a couple of disinterested folks to handle it, if we want to go that way. Jacki Jonas <[email protected]> wrote: Hi y'all. I'd like to bring up a couple of things to think about. Is the EC unable to assist with SC elections at the time of the national elections in the future as well, or is it because we were late asking for their assistance this time? The current bylaw proposal states that the SC election will be held in conjunction with the national elections. That may need to be reworded if we want to have the EC conduct the election for us in the future. The current wording does not prevent us from holding our own election without the EC's help at the time of the national election. The current proposal (and Vivian's announcement) states that the term will be for 2 years. Is the 2 years acceptable? The bylaws proposals haven't been voted on yet. If we want to change the timing of the SC turnover, we'd need to adjust the length of this upcoming term. (For example, if we wanted to run from September to September, then we'd need to make this term 13 or 25 months.) If we are ok with the timing to be at the time of the national election, then no changes would be needed. I have no strong preferences -- just wanted to bring it up so the Bylaws Committee would know what to do with the proposals. Also to think about -- would you like to have the Bylaws Proposals vote to be held by the EC when they can do it -- end of August, early September? Or handle those internally as well? That's a lot to think about. I hope I've been clear with my questions, but if not, I'll try again when I'm more awake :-) Jacki ==== GAGEN Mailing List ==== GAGenWeb By-Laws Committee Information Web Site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacolqu2/bylaws/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The timing of my request did not affect the EC's decision. It is my understanding that the EC will no longer conduct any state elections in conjunction with nationals. Yes, the bylaw proposal will have to be reworked to reflect an adjust start to the SC's term, if we wish the EC to conduct future elections. Of course, we do have the option to conduct our own elections, as several have mentioned. You are correct, Jacki, that if the membership decides it wishes the EC to handle future elections, the SC's term would need to be adjusted. I see no point in having another one-year "interim" term. While the nomination process proceeds, perhaps the Bylaws Committee could write a single proposal concerning the SC election process that we could vote on via the list before the election.
