Two years have flown by already? How peaceful and wonderful it has been too. Jan -----Original Message----- From: gagen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gagen-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Ed Gordon Hi Fellow CC's, May 1st is almost here so I want to ask each of you to start thinking about our State SC Election coming up in July ( I think that's when it is anyway). I want to say that I have enjoyed having the chance to Be SC and have done the best that I could as your SC and hope that I met all your expectations for a good SC. I have thought and thought about it and I dont think that I will be seeking another term as SC. Some of you consider giving it a try. I will let you know when the nomination period starts so start thinking about who you feel will be an asset to GAGenWeb as our next SC. I want to thank Vivian for being our ASC during my term and couldn't of done it with out her help..THANKS Vivian!! Thanks again for giving me the chance and putting your trust in me to take the helm for a couple of years. When I started 2 years felt like a LONG time but it has seemed to fly by. Thanks everyone for the welcome. It feels great to be able to contribute something to the genealogy world outside of my own family. I will always be on the hunt for new information and will pass along any I come across for other counties, too. This is a great project, and I know how valuable it has been in my own research, so hopefully I can contribute something to other people's research now. Looking forward to this! Working with local genealogical and historical societies can be a great way to promote our project and encourage people to donate data. I have two cautions: Sometimes genealogical/historical societies are aggressively involved in publishing data. If this is the case, the society might not be too receptive to having "competition." We have to be careful on our sites to avoid the appearance of "selling" anything. A reciprocal link with a society, for example, would be appropriate. Saying "Join the society today" would not. As long as the event sponsors and/or local societies are agreeable and our county sites continue to emphasize free data, I think it's a good idea.
