Jo-Ann, I am researching my Grandmother, Hattie Lou Stanley Tucker. She bore my father in 1912 in Marshall Co, AL. He was the 5th of her children. She married William Marcus Tucker but I do not have the date. Do you have any Hattie Lou's in you Stanley family? Photographers. We had a g-g-uncle who was a photographer in Atlanta just before the Civil War. I wouldn't know if any of his work survives. If anybody has pictures with the name of Mansel W. Rasbury/Rasberry, we would like to have a copy. Ann, I'm sorry to say there is no photographer's name on this picture. It is on a postcard. I'm glad you asked this question though because I really had not looked for a name and that could be a vital piece of information. Good evening, Well, I have come across another photo of children with some identification on the back. I hate to tell you how many are here with no names, very sad! I know all these people must have meant something to my grandmother. As I said in a previous post, my grandmother was Bedie O'Neal Cook Quinn (Mrs. Richard G.) who lived on Farris Ave. in East Point from about 1915 until her death in 1971. The little ones in this picture are the children of Ham Garner and his wife, Susan Elizabeth Quinn Garner. Their names are Ruby, Lois and George. One little girl appears to be about 4. The boy is about 6 and the other girl appears to be 7 or 8. The note on the back says that they all died of influenza. My own notes say these children died about 1913 but that is a guesstimate made many years after their deaths. Obviously, these children left no descendants but if their are family members who would like a copy of this picture I will be glad to scan it and email it to you. I do not know the name of Ham Garner's parents--Susan Quinn Garner was the daughter of James Hugh Quinn and Nancy Mallory. Her sister, Mary Belle married Ham's brother, John William. These folks may have lived in Campbell county at one time but all lived in East Point by the 1920s. Susan Quinn Garner and Belle Quinn Garner were my great aunts. Sheila Quinn
Steven, You should also ask around on the Georgia Cemeteries list to see if any other people want to get involved surveying hillcrest. I mentioned something about it and some agreed to help. I would also suggest that we meet perhaps at the Historical Society in EP, when we get the group organised. What are your thoughts. Sheila, you are a GEM. I hope someone claims the children too. Pictures are a wonderful plus to our work. I have a picture we found in my Cousin Effie Cook Langston picture box after her death in Aug 1998 at the age of 93. Effie did not share information about this picture to any of the family. Can someone suggest how I might get an ID? Pictured is a large group of people. The picture was probably made in Campbell Co GA in the summer time about 1895/6. Thomas Abner Howse is pictured along with his children Elizabeth, Thomas, Myra, Cynthia, James, Robert and Lawrence Howse. These children were born between May 1882 and Aug 1894. How long did little boys wear dresses in those days? The baby Lawrence was born Aug 1894, and he appears to be 1-2 yrs and in a dress. James Alonzo Kimberly is pictured with some of his family. James Kimberly was first cousin to Abner Howse first wife Josephine Ophelia Vaughn Howse. I do not have a clue as to who the other people are, but feel they are family, rather than a community gathering. Thanks so much for any clues on finding the other names. The city will not send workers as this is an on going legal manner and the city attorny will stop it. It took me 3 years to get them to do it with HillCrest and now Volunteers do it on ocassion. There is no reason to envolve The city with HillCrest. Since it is an abandoned priviate cemetery no one has ever had a problem with us going into . The city doesnot need to be contacted as it is a private cemetery, The city has no granting power with this particular place. They will however need to be contacted for only the Connally family cemetery as they have the deed and key to the gate. Hillcrest is a very large cemetery and would take a large team of people to do it in sections. Not to mention The lady who runs it has let it grow over and detererate. I have gone on the local news with a story to get it cleaned as My Boatrights are buried there. A lot of graves are hidden behind years of growth and it will be an extreme effort. It is sectioned off by roads so it could be done in sections. I Live near by and I say a few of us meet over there to let those interested see what they are in for and to formulate a plan. If we can get a large enough team maybe we can do others in and around the area.....Bethsadia in Clayton is one on my mind.
Good afternoon, With all the talk about East Point, I thought I would post this. My grandparents lived in East Point from about 1915 until their deaths. My father was born there in 1921 and was raised there until 1958. I have a picture that belonged to my grandmother, Bedie O'Neal Cook Quinn (Mrs. Richard G. ) On the back, in what appears to be my grandmother's handwriting it says "Agnes Ellen Hartsfield, age 8; Leila Elnor Hartsfield, age 6; Ruth Irene Hartsfield, age 4; and Arra Pollylett Hartsfield age 2 the 16th." If these folk belong to you I will be glad to email you a scan of the picture. The children are four cute little blonds. I hope someone out there will claim them. By the way, my grandparents and my great grandmother are buried at Hillcrest Cemetery. I am sitting up here in NC so cannot help with recording the cemetery--let me know if there IS some way I can help. Sheila Quinn
