    1. Re: [GAFULTON] Birth Certificates
    2. Does anyone know if very old birth certificates like 1890-1900 are available to descendants or do they still follow the guidelines of only being available to the person or guardian? If so, why is that. Many of my family members were born in Atlanta around the turn of the century. Thanks for your help. Rose

    1. [GAFULTON] 1925 STATE census records
    2. See below. Does anyone know if the 1925 State Census exists for Fulton/DeKalb Counties and where I could look at them? Do I write to the county or the state and which office/department? DOING CENSUS RESEARCH --by Diana J. Muir Some census records, such as those in the 1920 Federal Census, are indexed by a system called Soundex. All names sounding alike are assigned a code, and families with those names (listed on separate cards) are grouped together on microfilm. That way, even if you don't know how to spell a name exactly, you can find it by knowing how it sounds. The 1925 state census gives the most information. If you know your ancestors' names, you might find them in the 1925 census with their family group. You'll also find their parents' names, ages, and birthplaces. This gives you additional information to work with. Once you've located your ancestors in the census, work BACKWARD, going to 1900, 1880, 1870, and so forth.

    1. [GAFULTON] Census
    2. Is there a 1860 census in Georgia or was it destroyed? I am looking for Jessee and Mary Williams who lived in Roswell and if there were any family members. They came from SC and am theorizing they must have followed other family members who also would work in the mill. ALso is there a roster of who worked in the mill. I have confirmation that Jessee did but I am wondering if Mary did too. Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it. Bonnie

    2. I am sorry but I have found Patterson's very helpful when I have called for information. I check on folks all the time in my professional historical research. They have mailed me information and treated me very kindly. Oakland Cememtery has also been very helpful. The only "attitide" I have experienced in my research is at Westview Cemetery with a woman; however, she has given me the information. And no I don't do this for other people...that would be a full time job. ann in Atlanta

    3. Yes, it is a rough place. There are projects near by and there were men watching us. Markers had been turned over. It is a shame. It is a large nice cemetery with very old graves in part of it and I don't understand why a genealogy society does not adopt it. Take men with you and go up in the morning when the day is very bright. You might even ask a partol car to park for a few minutes. Have you tried to contact the office for information? If you live in the area they might let you come to the office. I wish you well. 3. Also I would like to point out that almost all funeral homes in Ga, certainly in the Atlanta Area have been bought out by big Corperations. H.M. Patterson is one of them. These people that now run the funeral homes (on site funeral directors) are not Genealogist friendly and go by coperate policies rather than the way the old fashioned family owned funeral homes did, So when the corperate bought out the family owned funeral homes The old ways went with them. Other word, If your not spending money on a funeral They could careless....Have a family member pass away a week after you ask and get rudely turned down, Then they kiss your feet. 3. Fred - In January of 1999 I was trying to find a Barclay and Brandon Co and wrote to the GA State Board of Funeral Directors. Here is what Mr. Massey found when he look into the query. I realize the names after Brandon are different but I just wonder if it isn't the same funeral home. Sorry it isn't more help. 1/99 letter from John Massey, inspector for GA State Board of Funeral Service. He researched my inquiry into Barclay and Brandon Co and found Barclay and Brandon Co. was changed to Brandon, Bond, Conley which became Peachtree Chapel. Peachtree Chapel was bought by H. M. Patterson & Son Funeral home in early 1960's. He contacted Pattersons and they have no records that far back. 2. I talked to a girl by the name of Eunice at the Hollywood Cemetery she was really nice and told me she would look but she was busy and told me what day to call back and I did she had forgot and told me to call again and then said she couldn't find anything but they did have more records but would I please make sure Who I was looking for is actually there so it would not be for nothing. She seemed very nice. She also said not to go there alone as its a very bad area. To get a group together. I can't I live in Las Vegas waiting to hear from a relative to confirm the place of burial. But you might try talking to this girl Eunice. I might have been had but she seems like she was very sincere.
