Next week, it might take a different keyword.
He is still writing a column. His column is on page "MF2" in the Dixie Living section of today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. At the end of latest article it says: "Where to write Inquires should be addressed to Kenneth H. Thomas, Jr., P.O. Box 901, Decatur, GA 30031. See www.gagensociety.org." Major James Montgomery and his wife Nancy Farlow 10/7/1780-7/17/1842) puchased 1,000 acres and built a river-crossing service for locals that needed to cross the Chattahoochee River (currently known as Bolton)-- he also served as Postmaster with the post office in his house from 1825 through 1842. He also served as Sheriff, Justice of Peace, Indian agent, State Legislature, tax collector - a street in the Ansley area of Atlanta bears the name "Montgomery's Ferry Drive". After they died their 3 (male) children (3 had died prevous to James and Nancy) purchased 60 acres in the town of LaGrange that had a miniscule school. - the 3 male brothers ran the school - (all female with 16 students at that time) - they named the school LaGrange Female Institute. The school became a very top notch private school. The brothers paid for alot of the students out of their own money and eventually came close to bankruptcy - they chose to sell the school and land to the Institute of the Methodist Epis. Church South for $60,000. Now (LaGrange College). The brothers had already sold the land in Atlanta along with the ferry and 1000 acres - Susan and Martin DeFoor purchased it and ran the ferry -- more later.....
Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for all the responses that I received from the folks that very kindly answered my queries as to where to stay and eat and research in each of these counties. I've tried to reply individually to each of you but in case I missed anybody---many, many thanks! Cindy

Hello list, If anyone happens to visit the Fulton Co. Library in the coming days, I would appreciate an obituary lookup. Virginia Boley Swann, widow of George Hamilton Swann, died in Fulton County 01-Mar-1974. She was 97 years of age. At the time of her husband's death in 1948, her address was listed as 434 Central Ave. SW. Is anyone familiar with this street? Is it still valid? Thanks in advance. Michael Tucker Gadsden, AL

Check out the map on the Campbell Co Gen Web site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacampbe/ It shows how Campbell fit in. Also gives a little description of what counties it was formed from. Valerie
