    3. I found out today that if you go through the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website http://www.accessatlanta.com/partners/ajc/, then hit obits, you will come up with a list of websites. Go down the long list and you will find Ancestry.com. One of those sites happens to be ancestry.com's GA Marriages database. You can acess it for free from the newspaper website, just when you imput a surname and you want to check for more or for different spellings, hit your back button. Hitting perform a new search will tell you that you have to be a premium member to search the records. This database was free for 10 days when ancestry.com first introduced it, so try it through the newspaper. I had pretty good luck this afternoon. Mary Anne

    1. [GAFULTON] death certs and xerox
    2. Mary Smith
    3. Hi: I just sent for a copy of a death cert and there is one fee of $10.00. It can not be a personal check as they will not take them. I went to a drug store and got a money order. I then sent for it in Feb. and got it just this week. It was a certified copy which is what you want as a documented source of information, especially if this is a direct ancestor. There is no mention of Xeroxing on their Webster. I suppose you could go there and see if you can copy it yourself, but as I live in Michigan that was out of the question. $10 wasn't too much to pay at today's prices. Back in the 70s they were going for $2 or $3. Mary Anne

    3. I don't think that there is an option to get "just a Xerox copy" The $10 fee at the state vital records office is for the search and one certified copy. Unless it has changed there is no "lesser service" available. -----Original Message----- From: Ann Oliver [mailto:user155177@mindspring.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2001 2:32 PM To: GAFULTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GAFULTON] Death Records Can anyone tell me if I can get just a Xerox copy of a death record. I called and they said I would receive them in 6 weeks, from the time they receive the money order. That was a month ago. So don't use mail if you want them anytime soon. 1. Re: [GAFULTON] Streets
    2. Hello All, I love reading the discussions on the streets and Five Points, but I do have one question about the streets. Why is everything called Peachtree. Couldn't they come up with something else. I can understand a few streets but when I came down to research my DODD/BROWN families I was so confused. It seemed that every street I looked at was Peachtree something. Can you imagine getting directions? "Just make a right on peachtree"......yeah right!....LOL Don't get me wrong, I loved Atlanta so much I am looking forward to moving there in a couple years. But I was just wondering. 2. Atlanta changes regularly. It used to be a joke that in the 1960s when you went downtown you never knew which way the one-way streets were running now. I would love to see someone do a webpage on the Peachtree Arcade building. It was one of my favorite place. Donna

    1. Re: [GAFULTON] Streets
    2. Donna, I think it probably came into popular use with the trolley system and when Joel Hurt changes Air Line Street to Edgewood and opens it up in 1888 to run to Inman Park. Or, earlier after Colonel Baum drilled the artesian well at Peachtree and Marietta streets on what Franklin Garrett says was, "on the present site of the Five Point flagpole." Ann in Atlanta
