My ggggrandparents were Richard Carnes (1774 NJ - 1854 Franklin Co GA) and Delpha _____(abt 1779 VA - ____) They came to Franklin Co in 1799 or 1800 with their eldest child Holloway (1798 NC - 1860 Hart Co GA), so apparently they were in NC for a time. They settled on Shoal Creek and farmed there the remainder of their lives, an area I believe is now in Hart Co GA. Richard Carnes had the following comtemporaries in Franklin Co around 1800 that I believe to be his brothers: Holloway, Wales (Wells), and perhaps John. Richard and Delpha's children were: Wells (1804 Franklin Co GA - 1858 Cherokee Co GA) m. Clarissa Herring (my gggrandparents) Holloway Carnes (1708 NC - 1860 Hart Co GA) m. Lyddy? (there is some confusion re Lyddy, his wife, and Lyddy, his sister) Richard Carnes (1813 Franklin Co GA - 1881 Franklin Co GA) m. Leah Looney 1845 William Carnes (1805 Franklin Co GA - ) m. Hannah Wright 1835 (d/o Obediah Wright) Samuel Carnes (1819 Franklin Co GA - 1989 Hart Co GA) m. M. Mary Looney 1845 (probably also d/o Obediah Wright) Sallie (Sarah) Carnes m. Green C. Walters 1834 Elizabeth (Betsy) Carnes b 1825 Franklin Co GA Lydia Carnes b 1818 Franklin Co GA Hugh Carnes b about 1815 Franklin Co GA, d aftter 1880, probably never married. Allied family names other than Herring, Looney, Wright, Walters, listed above in Franklin in subsequent generations were: McElwin, Fleming, Isom, Reed, Martin, Richardson, Byrum, Payne, Jordan. Searching for many years for Richard's ancestors, nothing yet. Also interested in communication with cousins... Paulette Willis Dunn Douglasville, GA
