    3. Many folks are aware of the Old Pendleton District consolidated GEDCOM File containing probably 300000 people or more. I am wondering if there is enough interest out there for a similar project for the Franklin County area. What they do is have folks contribute their gedcom files then they consolifdate them and make them available for download to whomever wants a copy. then after they got so huge that the d/l process took a long time they made CDROMs and sold them at about cost for duplication and mailing, around $10 I think, just enough to make it come out even. I don't have a CD Rewrite capability but I suspect somebody reading this does have and would be willing to make the CDs. I just did a sample project to see what would happen [on Family Tree Maker 5.0] and I believe it worked well. I took Franklin Co Smiths file I had and merged it with the Fr. co Ayers file I had and with original files of 8000 and 2000 people I ended up with a file of more than 10000 people. I don't know how much hard drive it would take to do such a project and how much help I would need to do this but I am willing to start it and see what results. I have only a 6 gig hard drive with 128 megs of memory. Are there others WILLING to contribute, WILLING to review and act as editors for each increment as we build such a huge gedcom file. Editing is mandatory to view the results of a merge of files to remove or reconcile similar or duplicate individuals. I feel quite sure Mr. David Stephenson, the Fr. Co. Website coordinator would give us prominent advertising on the web page, right David? First I want to say that I am the kind of guy who shares, anytime you ask me for information I will gladly share and these are the type folks I am hoping to enlist for this project. Shown above are the files I now have that COULD constitute the nucleus of the gedcom [I have a lot more but they are all smaller files] but I welcome any LARGE CONTRIBUTOR who believes he has a larger file to become the nucleus. I think the larger file the better for the first increment upon which we build the overall file. I have other files but of smaller variety. Please let me know what you think of the possibilities of this project, I will not start it unless I hear from some key players [genealogists] in the Fr. Co Community and receive a thumbs up on participation to make it a success. This is certainly not a go-it-alone project for anyone; contributions are mandatory and we will have to throw out that ole jealousness that makes us want to hide what we have accomplished for some UNKNOWN reason for a later time. If we start this project we will need the info now. then it will be available to ANYBODY who wants it. That way we will have helped our fellow man honor his fat! hers and mothers as we are supposed to do. We can swap files back and forth using gedcom attachments to email. Or via snail mail diskettes. Please get back to me with your comments, questions, pledges of contributions or whatever you want to say to me. Charles ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] Don't worry bout me. I'm as organized as a henhouse full of chikens jus don't expect perfexion.
