The exact site of the Aquilla post office was probably northwest of present day downtown Lavonia in the area around I-85 and Hwy 17 If memory serves me, in the 1880s the office closed, and was officially moved and renamed to Lavonia. The new train station and businesses that were developing around it caused the move. The people enumerated as using the Aquilla post office on the 1870 census could be anywhere from the Hart County line to about the present day Stephens County line in that northeastern corner of the county. -Darrell darrell23@aol.com
