I am a descendant of Thomas Carter who was a revolutionary war soldier who received a land grant in Franklin County for his services in the war, and came to Richmond, GA sometime in the 1780's. My father is the son of Claude Telford Patterson and Costelle Valley Carter. I believe Costelle was born sometime in the early 1890's. My father was born in 1921 and is still alive living in Missouri. In 1987, he went to South Carolina to visit sister and niece and became interested in the family geneaology. He visited an older lady named Sarah Carter who lived in Gainesville, GA at the time and she sent him a letter which told him that he was a descendant of Welborn Carter. Welborn died young, leaving children who were divided up among relatives. Only one, stayed with "Sandy" carter, until she married Tweet Robinson. My father and Sarah Carter were double first cousins.
