Dear list: My GG grandmother Sarah Ann Higginbotham Thompson remarried after her husband Isham Thompson was killed in the War Between the States. He was Co. I, 34th Ga. Regt. She remarried to Benjamin Bennett in 1866 in Franklin Co. He was some younger than her. She had 4 children and in the 1860 census of F.C. they are in the household of Nancy CRUMP, who was their Great Aunt and in the household of William Higginbotham and his wife Elizabeth (their grandparents) who were living on the farm of Nancy Tyner Crump. He is listed in the 1850 Franklin Co. census in the household of Philemon Bennett age 48 born in S.C. Sarah and Benjamin had one son, James "Jim" Bennett. If this is of any help or interest to the ones of you doing Bennett research ...e-mail me. I have the other families listed in the 1850 census of Bennetts. I am told that Sarah Ann Higginbotham Thompson Bennett was buried in an old burial plot behind old J.O. Kelley's store on Hwy 106 in Red Hill. The cemetery was destroyed years ago and the field stones all removed and piled up. I cannot find Sarah and Benjamin Bennett in any census records. Maybe I have missed it.
