    1. DUNN--roll call
    2. Michael Dunn
    3. William DUNN and Joseph DUNN turn up in Franklin Co. in the 1790s; they originated in North Carolina. William was almost certainly Joseph's father. Joseph left for Kentucky in the early 1800s; William remained in Franklin and died about 1811. However, from about 1798 onward, a James DUNN appears from time to time in Franklin records, and the earliest references show him owning land adjacent to William and Joseph in the Eastonolee Creek area. I suspect he is related in some way to them; he or another James Dunn turns up in the 1815 and later period. I'm particularly interested in anyone with information on this James Dunn. A James Dunn briefly owned land in Rabun County in the early 1820s, near land first settled by James Stonecypher, whose father William Stonecypher lived adjacent to William and Joseph Dunn in Franklin. If the James in Rabun is the same as the James of Franklin -- and the Stonecypher connection hints he may be -- then it would establish a link between the Franklin DUNNs and my Rabun DUNNs. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to a link, but I've never been able to find the proof. Anyone knowing anything about James DUNN of Franklin, I'd love to hear from and share what else I have. Michael Dunn estimate@worldnet.att.net

    1. Roll Call - Wyly / McKinley / Kinley
    2. Hi, I know by the general rules of the roll call that I should stick to one surname, but this probable ancestor apparently changed his name from Wyly to Kinley, a shortened version of his Grandmother's maiden name, for whom he was named. In searching for the parents of my GGG Grandmother, ELIZABETH CAROLINE KINLEY (b. 20 Nov 1823 NC, m. ELIAS MITCHELL BENTLEY, d. 2 Dec 1900 in Habersham Co, GA), I have found only one KINLEY family in the area, that of one JAMES KINLEY who appears in the 1830 and 1840 census in Franklin Co., GA. The BENTLEY family moved from Union Co., SC to Franklin Co, GA & then to Habersham Co, GA, so it is likely that Elias & Elizabeth C. met in Franklin County. The JAMES KINLEY listed in the Franklin Co, GA census did have a daughter of ELIZABETH CAROLINE's age. Searching for info on JAMES KINLEY, I came across him listed in a database at ancestry.com called "Individual Gene Pool," which listed his date of birth as 13 Jan 1799, death 8 May 1857, & parents names as HARRIS MCKINLEY WYLY & ARTE TAYLOR. Other children of Harris & Arte listed in this database were: Isabella (b 1795 NC), Sarah (b. 1810 - AL), John (1812 - AL), & Christopher K. (b 1814 - AL) Other info that I have found lists HARRIS MCKINLEY WYLY's date/place of death as abt. 1850 in Washington, TN. The "Individual Gene Pool" database listed HARRIS MCKINLEY WYLY's parents as JAMES WYLY and MARTHA HARRIS. From another source, I found that MARTHA HARRIS' parents were listed as JAMES HARRIS, b abt. 1674 in Northern Ireland, and JANE MCKINLEY, who died abt 1784 in Mecklenburg County, NC - now Cabarrus County, NC. I have no idea why James McKinley Wyly changed / shortened his name to James Kinley, but would love to find / compare notes with other descendants of any of the folks listed above. Sorry to have been so long-winded! Betty Cooper msgcooper@aol.com
