    1. Harris(s)
    2. I'm looking for information on my ggg grandparents Braddock and Rachel Hickerson Harris(s). The info I have is that they moved tfrom Laurens Co. S.C. to Franklin Co, Ga abt 1815. They lived abt 20 miles west of Carnesville on the Grove River. Question; Is there a Grove river about 20 miles west of Carnesville? Is it still in Franklin Co or is it now in Banks Co? Rachel died abt 1822 in Franklin Co. Where buried? Braddock and Rachel's children were Jennie, John Lane, Mollie, Nancy, Sally,Stephen, Braddock Jr and Little (Litle, Lytle, Lytal, etc). Little and Braddock Jr married sisters Anna and Avey Handley abt 1825 in Franklin Co. Handley family? In the 1827 Georgia land lottery Little won land in Coweta/Heard Co. and Braddock won land in Troup/Meriwether Co. Braddock Sr was living in Cowets in 1830. Little and Braddock Jr moved from Heard Co to Alabama abt 1843. Any info on the above questions or people would be appreciated. If you need any info I have, please let me know. Thanks, Gil Harris

    1. TIMOTHY ANDERSON
    2. I am researching a Timothy Anderson that was born about 1780. He married Margera. He has two known sons named Timothy Smith Anderson and Richard Anderson. He has a daughter named Lucinda K. Anderson. His wife is named Margarett or Margarera. I found Timothy first on the following Franklin Co., Ga. tax list: 1800, page 34, Timothey Anderson 1801, page 15, Timothy Anderson 1803, page 6, Timothey Anderson 1810, page 2, Timothy Anderson I also found Timothy Anderson in the book HISTORY OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, GEORGIA, page 89: "Timothy Anderson - BB" (drew 2 blanks in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery for land located in Baldwin, Wilkinson, & Wayne Counties.) Timothy's son, TIMOTHY SMITH ANDERSON, was born about 1815 in Georgia, and died about 1884 in Cleburne County, Alabama. Timothy' Smith's wife was named Margaret and their children were Arminder Jane, William E., Francis (Frank) M., John H., Milas (Miles) Jasper, Sarah, James Thomas, Newberry Smith, Jefferson Davis, and Lucinda Evaline. Timothy Smith Anderson had had a brother named Richard that wed Amanda Little. He also had a sister, Lucinda K., that wed Isam or Joshua Isham Bently Oct 14, 1847, in Calhoun Co., Al. I believe that I am correct in saying that this entire family migrated to Benton Co., Al, between 1840 and 1850 from DeKalb County, Ga. We think that Timothy Smith Anderson's father died before 1840 - possibly in the Indian War of 1836. Timothy's mom, Margera, remarried to John A. Barnes August 25, 1847, in Benton Co., Al. John was from Madison County, Georgia and he had a son from a previous marriage, William M. Barnes, born 1825, in Madison County. (Ref: Family Treemaker, Vol 10, Tree 4466) Timothy Smith Anderson, Richard Anderson, and Abel Anderson were living near each other in the Kemp's Creek District of Calhoun/Cleburne County in 1860 and 1870. Timothy and Richard came from DeKalb Co., GA, after 1840; Abel came from Cherokee Co., GA, after 1850.. Abel was born in SC about 1791-1792. I found him first on the 1840 Union Co., GA Census. He married Anna Magee February 24, 1825, in Habersham Co., GA. In DeKalb Co., GA, Timothy Smith Anderson seems to be related to Robert C., and William B. Anderson and their children. On the 1840 DeKalb Census, I found a Robert C., William B., and Smith Anderson that had 7 slaves each. Richard Anderson, Timothy's brother, sold 101 1/4 acres to John Elams for $800 on February 1, 1842. Martha, a member of our small group researching this line, went to the Surveyor General's office for a copy of the original land grant. It was first granted to James Garnett of Madison County, Georgia. We found a James, John, Jacob, and Terril Anderson on the 1820 census there. Since the name James is so common in our line, we think that our ancestor came from Madison County. Please contact me if you have seen any of the above names. I will share everything that we have found on these Andersons. Bill

    2. Janice Craft
    3. Does anyone know where in 1800 'Tom's Creek" was located? Maybe somewhere close to Garretts River? Any help will be appreciated as that area may now be in another county in Georgia. Thomas Crews was suppose to have lived there somewhere between 1793 and 1808. Janice Craft

    1. GORHAM, AVERY, ATTAWAY
    2. I am stuck on my ancestor Thomas GORHAM, b. 1819 in Franklin County, Georgia. (Information on place of birth from his Civil War discharge papers out of Arkansas). He served in the Florida Indian Wars from 1837 to 1838 and then served in the Cherokee Removal after that for 6 months. He did this as an enlistee from Georgia. (Information from his U.S. pension papers). Thomas then married Almeda DENSON in Cass County (now Bartow) Georgia in 1842. They moved to Arkansas between 1847 - 1850 where Thomas lived the rest of his life until his death in 1908. Another relative came to Arkansas from Georgia at the same time as Thomas. His name was John M. Gorham, b. 1818. I do not know if this was a brother or cousin or what relationship. I do know that John and Thomas lived in the same areas and died in the same small town in Hempstead County, Arkansas and that all of the Gorham descendants from both men always knew that they were cousins. I believe, but cannot prove, that Thomas and John M. Gorham were the sons of Thomas Gorham and Mary Moss AVERY. There is a marriage record for this couple in Franklin County for 1815. This is the only Gorham record I could find. I understand that Mary was the daughter of Henry Avery of Franklin County and that she was born abt 1796 in Virginia. I have subsequently learned from other researchers that Mary Moss Avery and Thomas Gorham had 3 children that may have been named John, Truitt (Thomas ?), and Fannetta (Funnetta or Nettie). Mary then became a widow sometime before 1827 when Thomas died and left her with 3 small children. According to the Franklin County, Georgia website, there are loose probate papers in the Georgia Archives for a Thomas Gorham which could be for this man. I have not had an oppurtunity to research this further since I live in Arizona. Mary Moss Avery Gorham then married John T.Cohen ATTAWAY in 1827 in Franklin County. (marriage record). They had 5 children. In 1830, John and Mary Attaway are on the Franklin County Census. In 1840, John and Mary Attaway are on the Coweta County, Georgia Census. Nothing for 1850 census. In 1860, they are on the Campbell County, Georgia Census. In 1870, they are on the Campbell County, Georgia Census. Fannetta Gorham, the daugher of Mary Moss Avery Gorham and Thomas Gorham, married Moses H. Attaway in 1836 in Coweta County (marriage record shows "Furnetta W. Gorum"). She then married Upton W. Byram in 1840 in Coweta County. Then a few days ago I found a Deed for Franklin County dated July 31, 1793 from John Gorham and wife Jenney of Elbert County to Barnabas Pace of Elbert County. The land is in Franklin County and the deed indicates that it is on "Gorhams Fork of Broad R. (River?)". The deed states that John Gorham received a patent deed dated November 15, 1785 from Governor Elbert. The land had been surveyed in 1784. I found the reconstructed census for Franklin County, Georgia for 1790 and the only Gorham people listed were John Gorham, Jenny Gorham, Sanford Gorham and William Gorham. The history I found for Franklin County said that the county was created in 1784 and the land was given by Bounty Grants to Veterans of the Revolutionary War. My theory is that John Gorham was a Revolutionary War Veteran and that's how he received his land in Franklin County. I believe that Sanford and William were his sons and that he may have had another son Thomas born abt 1795 after this census. This Thomas would probably be the same one that married Mary Moss Avery in 1815. I believe that John M. Gorham and Thomas Gorham (my ancestor) were their sons. I also found 3 other deeds in Franklin County dated July 7, 1807 that were Sheriff's Deeds conveying property of John Gorham (deceased September 26, 1801). The property was conveyed pursuant to an execution issued out of the Superior Court of Franklin County after an auction. I suppose I am theorizing a lot and I can't prove the connections beyond my Thomas Gorham, b. 1819 in Franklin County. However, my Thomas did name his oldest son, William Sanford Gorham. His 2nd son was named John Thomas Gorham. I haven't been able to find the 1800, 1810 or 1820 census for Franklin County online. Nor have I seen any probate papers for John Gorham, deceased in 1801, or Thomas Gorham, deceased before 1827. Someone also mentioned that Franklin County had a History book. Does any of this sound like it fits into anyone's family line? Can someone do a lookup in the Franklin County History Book and see if any Gorham people are listed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Charlotte Howell Berry Phoenix, Arizona

She didn't get married until 12/26/1880 but she isn't listed unless the census takers made a mistake and called her Amantha but it has wrong dates too. Will have to study that out and get back. The census even has at least one child that I didn't have listed too I didn't have that census and it gives some births that I didn't have. Thanks for that. The exact site of the Aquilla post office was probably northwest of present day downtown Lavonia in the area around I-85 and Hwy 17 If memory serves me, in the 1880s the office closed, and was officially moved and renamed to Lavonia. The new train station and businesses that were developing around it caused the move. The people enumerated as using the Aquilla post office on the 1870 census could be anywhere from the Hart County line to about the present day Stephens County line in that northeastern corner of the county. -Darrell darrell23@aol.com

    1. Henry Cannon & Mary/Polly Martin
    2. Doug & Grace Foster
    3. My great grandfather, Almon Cannon, was born in Georgia at a place unknown, but possibly Walton County, on June 13, 1812. He and his older brother, Elijah Cannon, b. 1809 moved to Bedford County, Tennessee in the early 1830s. Almon Cannon remained in Tennessee for the rest of his life, dying in 1896. Elijah moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee before 1850 and remained there for the rest of his life, dying in 1879. I think that their parents may have been the Henry Cannon that married Polly Martin in Clarke County, Georgia on 24 February 1808. A Henry Cannon was listed in the 1820 census of Walton County. I do not have access to that census. Would someone please give me the information for the Henry Cannon household? Thanks! Was this the same Henry Cannon who resided in Franklin County, Georgia in the very early 1800s? There were also living in Franklin at that time a Thomas Cannon and a William Cannon. Were they brothers of Henry? A Mary/Polly Cannon was head of household in DeKalb County, GA in the 1830, 1840 & 1850 census tabulations. Is this Mary/Polly Cannon the same person as Mary/Polly Martin? A Mary Cannon filed as administrator on the estate of William Cannon in DeKalb County in February 1830. Was she married first to Henry and second to William Cannon? Is Henry Cannon listed in the Estate records of Walton County? A Theophilus Cannon was born in Walton County on 24 November 1824. He was raised as a "foster" child by Elizabeth Gill and William Brand II. Who were his blood parents? He named his 7th child Thomas Almon Cannon. A William Augustus Cannon was born,I think) in Walton County. He was the son of Thomas Cannon and Sarah (Hudson) Holder. They were married in Newton County, Georgia Any help on any of these persons will be greatly appreciated Doug Foster
