I am researching Harris Brannen, born 1776 in SC but shown in Franklin Co., GA tax lists (with various spellings) from 1805 to 1831. Apparently lived in the Shoal Creek area although he shows as a poll only (no land). He migrated to Covington Co., AL in about 1832 and later moved to nearby Dale Co.(the part which later became Coffee Co.), AL. His daughter Francis married Drury V. Motes and his daughter Mary married Robert Hemphill (Jr.?) both in Franklin Co.. Would appreciate any info and will share mine.

Happy Holidays, I know I've not seen hardly any posts lately and I'm hoping that you guys are still reading any queries that might come thru. I am trying to find out if any of you "COUSINS" of mine, related to me thru Elias Sanders b 1775, have seen or have copies of the original land records for Elias. I'm "not" talking about the one's that mention him and his father-in-law, Thomas Carter, Sr. These are land records for Thomas Carter, not Elias. If anyone has them or has seen them, please email me. If you don't have them and live near the Archives, and you don't mind looking for Land Deeds, Headright Grants or whatever it might be, let me know as I will pay for it but living in Dallas,TX, it's not that easy for me. Sure I could order it but I want to try this first as it cost more to order from the Archives when you live out of state. I'm also not talking about the lottery lands that he won in 1821 and after as I know where that land is located. I'm trying to determine when Elias might have first got land in GEORGIA and where that land was located. I'm sure this land, if he had a deed to it vs inheriting it, was the land he lived on in what was FRANKLIN CO, to become ELBERT CO, and eventually, HART CO, GA. We've all heard he got land in Elbert Co in 1807/08 and the deed is said to be on file with the Secretary of State but the Archives should have those records, shouldn't they. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone knowing the answer to that can email me back, please. The Old Pendleton District (SC) database has been revised and the cd version will be mailed out by 15 December. All open requests will be filled at that time. This ongoing, longtime effort is that of Herman Geschwin and the Old Pendleton District Chapter of the SCGS. It now contains information on over 296,000 individuals and more than 101,000 families with roots in the Old Pendleton District of South Carolina. OPD shared common borders with many SC, NC and GA counties as may be seen in this map http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/opd.jpg For more info on the cd, see http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/ which provides links to the OPDC/SCGS. Hello, I have just joined your web site. I am researching the names, SAXON/SAXTON/HOBGOOD/EDWARDS. These named folks lived in the GUM LOG area during the 1812 war and were in Franklin Co. (now Stephens) for several years. Any information regarding these families will be most welcomed. I will be happy to exchange info also. These folks may have attended Popular Springs Church. Just anything regarding GUM LOG will be interesting to me. Thank you, Dorice in TX

One more time. Ya'll I apologize if this is the 2nd time I've sent this. I just got a notice of a "failure to send" from my email program, telling me the address is not correct and it returned it to me. Having some weird things going on with the program. I am trying to find where Capt Barton's District was located in Franklin Co Georgia? Any info whether a little or a lot, is very much appreciated. Just in case a time frame is needed, it was listed this way on the 1840 Census of Franklin Co, GA. What area would this be today? Again, any info helps Thanks in advance, Gale Sanders _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I am researching the life and death of Revolutionary War Veteran Richard Brooks Hooper, b. 17 May 1756 and d. aft. 1840 and buried in Banks County, GA. I have come to the understanding, through several published sources, that Richard B. Hooper is buried in an old family cemetery on the old Miller/Kesler farm on a hill dividing Banks and Franklin Counties about two miles south of the Stephens County line. This land was originally owned by James N. Miller, father-in-law or Richard Brooks Hooper. I have also come to the understanding that a Lelia Spearman, w/o E. E. Mitchell of Toccoa, GA, properly marked the grave of Patriot Richard B. Hooper with a DAR marker. I have never been to Banks County nor have I seen pictures of the cemetery or this Daughters of American Revolution marker that was placed there to honor him. I was wondering if anyone or any organization has taken pictures up there of the cemetery and especially the grave of Richard B. Hooper and his wife, if so I would love to get a copy of the picture(s) of the gravesite and cemetery so I can see what the site looks like where my ggggg-grandfather is buried. Any information and help would be greatly appreciated. Yours truly, Robert C. Johnston, Jr. 284 Redland Downs Trail Wetumpka, AL 36093 USA rcj@mindspring.com
I am looking for info on John Gorham who was in Franklin County in the 1780-1798 period. His wife was Jennett (aka Jennie or Jane)Williamson. She was the daughter of J. Peter Williamson and his wife Elizabeth. The children of John Gorham and Jennie Williamson Gorham were Sanford, Mary Polly and Thomas Gorham. John Gorham died before 1798 and his widow Jennie married Edmund Henley. Jennie died before 1810 and Edmund Henley married Hepsibeth Denham on January 14, 1810. Jennie's mother, Elizabeth Williamson, married Edmund King sometime before 1808. Thomas Gorham, son of John and Jennie Gorham, married Mary Moss Avery in 1815. Mary was the daughter of Henry Avery and his wife Nancy. I believe Thomas and Mary Gorham had 3 children, John, Thomas and Funnetta (Tennetta or Nettie). Thomas then died before 1827 when Mary Moss Avery Gorham married John T. Cohen Attaway. If anyone can supply any info on these families, please let me know. Charlotte. charlarr30@aol.com
Page 500, The History of Stephens County Georgia, compiled by Kathryn Curtis Trogdon: Moss Cemetery, Near Old Union Hill School. Here is inventoried the following: Moss, Martha, wife of P. J. Moss 1845 - 1899 Moss, John, 1801 - 1867 (This is Patarick Jackson Moss' father) I have a problem: Patrick Jackson Moss' wife was Mary Ann, not Martha. For years I accepted that the stone had just been misread. But I find that the 1900 Census shows Patrick with wife Elizabeth (Hughes) married four years (1896). If Mary Ann did not die until 1899, how is Patrick marrying Elizabeth Hughes in 1896? Norm Ricker
Can anyone give me a location for the Moseley's Store Postoffice? It was listed as the mailing adress for Rev. William Kelly from 1858 in Tugalo Baptist Association minutes. I've not been able to find it in either Franklin nor Stephens County histories. By 1877 his address was listed as Toccoa City. Thanks for any help. Fran Bay tbay@columbus.rr.com
Hello, Is there anyone on the list that can do a lookup on the TAX LISTS of 1800, 1810 and 1820? I would need to find what the person was paying taxes on. I guess that might be more than an index. If not, does anyone know where I would find the originals? My ancestor got land in 1808, maybe before. I would like to find what the records show abt what he was paying taxes on. I am trying to locate James R. BRYAN and his wife, Susan DENMAN BRYAN on the 1860 census. They were born in Franklin Co., GA. They were married there in 1849 and were listed on the 1850 census with their first child. I cannot find them in 1860. I believe that they moved to the Jackson Co., AL area in the mid 1850s because several of the children's death certificates (in Texas in the 1940s state they were born in Alabama in the late 1850s). So they should be in Jackson or Dekalb Co., Alabama. Can anyone help me? Thanks. Jackie Morgan
