I don't have much information. Most of it has been posted. But I did look through my records and while I don't have anything on John Warren, the named Cawthon is mentioned. I show that John Tilman Carter's father (Thomas Carter) was married to Sarah Fannie Cawthon.
I have seen WARRENs in Lincoln Co. GA as well. The first names where Hackley, and Lot (short for Lancelot), and some others. I am drawing these from sheer memory. I would have to go back in files to find all I have. These WARREN I believe came from Spottsylvania Co., VA., where I found the exact names in land records there. Thank you, Cynthia CARTER DYER Janet Small wrote: > > I have just joined this list and am trying to verify some of > the WARREN information I have accumulated. > > Does anyone have evidence of the parentage of John Jackson > WARREN who married Pricilla Vaughn? I responded to the sender of this message but thought why miss an opportunity to make a connection with others related to me. I too am related to Thomas Carter born 1750 SC, died 1810 GA. My dates of his children are different from those listed and I am wondering if anyone else out there has what I have? Don't have my doc's handy but I do remember Thomas Carter Jr is said to have been born in 1772. My Mary Carter was born in 1775 and my info shows another son John Carter but can't remember his dob. I've been told that Thomas might have married a Mary Chilton but no hard evidence so that door is still open. As I told the sender of this message, there were at least three Thomas Carter's in Georgia. All were in the REV WAR. One I know was a captain and I believe he's buried in the same part of GA as our's. Some of my info shows that Thomas Carter and Mary ? married in Hall Co, GA or at least it says that is where they found the record of marriage. Anyone know if Hall Co is close to Richmond, GA or what relation there might be between the two? The records I'm referring to were checked by DAR and I've been told (by a former President) that by the # on the DAR application record, that it being such a higher #, that the info would have been checked throughly versus in the past, I believe they went by what was sent in and depended on that person to verify information. My Elias Sanders is mentioned in land records with Thomas Carter as there being a conditional? line on Thomas' property with my Elias. Can anyone tell me what that might mean??? Get in touch if you're related and let's compare notes, thoughts or whatever!!!! I have just joined this list and am trying to verify some of the WARREN information I have accumulated. Does anyone have evidence of the parentage of John Jackson WARREN who married Pricilla Vaughn? He is sometimes shown as the son of Thomas Hackley and Hannah Cawthon WARREN, but the dates don't seem right to me. Does any one have information about the John WARREN, son of Valentine WARREN of Hall Co, who is said to have married a Priscilla? My unproven theory is that John Jackson may be the son of Valentine and "my" John Warren who was born 1792 in SC is the son of Thomas Hackley & Hannah Warren. Any help very much appreciated. And if there should be a 'cousin' reading this, I would love to share info with. In over ten years of Warren research, I have a lot of info--some likely credible, some very 'iffy'. Janet Small
Dear Temple's researchers and interested parties: Joyce Temples Barnett, Author of "Temple People" printed in 1988, revised 1995, is preparing to print a second book expanding on the first book and incorporating some of my research on the South Carolina connections. One of the key factors into determining the cost of the book is ascertaining the number to be printed. The more demand, the greater costs are divided up, reducing the over all price of the book. She is producing this as a non-profit offering and is fronting the costs of printing herself. She is in the process of getting the indexing completed. She is anticipating to hard bind the book as well. The book will sell for $50-75 depending on demand. It appears that her book will around 1000 pages. To aid her in establishing the demand, interested parties may contact me with requests. Please include the total number of copies interested. Listservers, libraries, genealogical societies, and research groups, please poll your members and post this if you would. Her first printing sold 300 copies initially and another 200 over ten years. With the access to the web and more intersted researcher involved, we expect the demand to be much higher. Joyce is hoping to get a good measure of the interest, since she will be investing thousands of dollars to bring this book to printing, not to mention thousands of hours of research! Dear list: My GG grandmother Sarah Ann Higginbotham Thompson remarried after her husband Isham Thompson was killed in the War Between the States. He was Co. I, 34th Ga. Regt. She remarried to Benjamin Bennett in 1866 in Franklin Co. He was some younger than her. She had 4 children and in the 1860 census of F.C. they are in the household of Nancy CRUMP, who was their Great Aunt and in the household of William Higginbotham and his wife Elizabeth (their grandparents) who were living on the farm of Nancy Tyner Crump. He is listed in the 1850 Franklin Co. census in the household of Philemon Bennett age 48 born in S.C. Sarah and Benjamin had one son, James "Jim" Bennett. If this is of any help or interest to the ones of you doing Bennett research ...e-mail me. I have the other families listed in the 1850 census of Bennetts. I am told that Sarah Ann Higginbotham Thompson Bennett was buried in an old burial plot behind old J.O. Kelley's store on Hwy 106 in Red Hill. The cemetery was destroyed years ago and the field stones all removed and piled up. I cannot find Sarah and Benjamin Bennett in any census records. Maybe I have missed it.
