Hi List, this came from Jones County Georgia, Sure would be nice if we something like his going on in Franklin County, George H. Watkins has contributed to the Jones County site, his extensive work with Land Lots and Land Districts in the "original Baldwin County"....which became Jones County. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gajones/landlots.htm It is a wonderful example of "how to trace" land lots. Because he couldn't find documentation in court records, he began this work to prove how his ancestors obtained their land. Beginning with the drawing of the Land Lot in the lottery of 1807....he then traces each land lot up to present time. In some instances he used Tax Digests to complete it when deeds were missing. He has included land lot maps for this land as well. Another section displays the worksheets that he created. These are done by years, i.e. 1825, 1835, 1870 and show ownership of the land in a chart form, so that neighboring families can be identified. Be sure to take the time to visit all the sections. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
I am looking for information on Hudson River Church. Some relatives were married there in 1917. This church may be in Franklin or Banks County. I will appreciate your help. Ken
Sam, The Baker line married into my Howell line. The Abner Baker that you are talking about was the son of Nicholas Baker and Elizabeth Lawrence. I have a slightly different marriage date than you. I show the marriage as May 27, 1817 instead of the September 19, 1816 that you have. Not sure which is correct. Nicholas Baker had a brother John Baker who married Sarah Appling. Their son George Nicholas Baker was born in Clark County, Georgia and he married Elizabeth Howell (part of my Howell family). They later moved on to Fayette County, Alabama and then Texas. I may have some other info for you or can at least connect you to some Baker researchers. Although I see the McKie, McKey, McKay, McKee name a lot in the Franklin County, Georgia records, I can't pinpoint where or if Cynthia (Cinthia) McKee is part of them. Hope this helps. Charlotte Howell Berry charlarr30@aol.com
I have Abner Baker married to Cynthia McKee in Clarke Co. Ga. 19 Sep. 1816. I am looking for the parents or sibling of Cynthia McKee. I have found where a John McKee was killed by a falling tree in 1804 in Clarke Co. also a Samuel McKee that died in Clarke Co. in 1808. Abner Baker's father "Nicholas Baker" was a J.P.in Franklin Co.Ga. in 1817. I would like to hear from anyone working on this McKee linage. Sam Cottrell
My grandparents Nathan E(rvin) Williams and Julia S. Eskew were married in Franklin Co GA in 1880 according to records. My father Samuel Perry "Doc" Williams(1905-1980 RIP) is the youngest of their 13 children. I am his only child. He was 57 when I was born in 1962. I'm researching the ancestors of my grandparents. Can offer research info on descendants of this marriage in exchange for ancestral assistance. Sincerely SE Williams
The next quarterly (usually) revision of the Old Pendleton District (SC) Database cd will be mailed on 15 June 2001. All outstanding requests will be filled at that time. The OPD Database is a project of the Old Pendleton District Chapter/SCGS and is based on a single gedcom containing over 300,000 names of those who lived in the OPD (+ancestors+descendants in most states and several countries). The OPD was comprised of the area now occupied by the 3 westernmost counties of SC. Adjacent counties are in GA and NC in addition to SC. See map at http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/opd.jpg To see more about the OPDC/SCGS, see: http://oldpendleton.homestead.com/index.html To see more about the inexpensive OPD database cd, see: http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/ (Revised 4/26/2001) A new option on this revision of the cd is being able to search/view/print the database completely from the cd without copying or installing anything. All the usual options are still available. This cd project had prior approval by Rootsweb before its initiation.
