    3. Hi, I'm looking for someone that might have access to LAND RECORDS for Franklin Co, GA. If you have access, I am looking for anything on Elias Sanders (b 1775) and Thomas Carter (b 1750) and/or his son Thomas Carter (b 1771). You may find several for Thomas Carter and they will all be related. This is not saying you will find them together but there is speculation that Thomas Carter gave his daughter Mary Carter some or all of his land before he died in 1810, Franklin Co, GA. He may have given it to Elias as he was the husband of Mary Carter. Just in case I'm not on this list after awhile, please feel free to email me at: LGaleSanders@hotmail.com Thanks for any help that anyone can offer. I have exhausted by local library and before I take more time at our downtown library, I am hoping some good hearted (grin) person will be able to help me. 1. Double Branch Church location
    2. David Stephenson
    3. Hi all, This response was so good I had to forward it to the Group. Also, It seems That Double Branch may have spread, I got some leads that a Double Branch was Located Lincoln County GA, As well as McCormick County South Carolina. I at this time do not have any driving direction's to any of them. But hoping someone can point me to them. I will need to check all three. I am looking for the Grave of Margaret Stephenson/Stevenson. She would have been a member from what I gather. Margaret Born 1770 Ireland. Died abt 1851 or 1852. 80 some years young. Any Leads Apprished Quoting from the "History of Franklin County, Georgia": "The organization of the Double Branches Church occurred in the year 1801, in Franklin County, GA. The first building was made of round logs, and located between two small branches, near their junction, and thus the name was suggested and appropriated Double Branches Church. The old original building had but one door for entering, no door shelter, and the floor was dirt. Split logs were used for seats. The men and women sat separate in the church. The boards were not nailed on the roof, but held down by poles and weights to keep them in place. The work done in building this church was a free will offering by the people, no charges and no pay received by anyone. The first pastor was Samuel Hymer, the second Lott Bramlet, and probably the third was Rev. Dozier Thornton and the fourth John A. Davis of Habersham County (Stephens). The chairman of the organization committee was Benjamin Childs, and the original or pioneer members were as follows: Benjamin Childs and wife (Deacon), Thomas Whitlow and wife (Deacon), James Thurman and wife, Samuel Sewell and wife, John Watson and wife, Bill Irons and wife, Neal Donahoo and wife, John Saundree and wife, Chesley Cauthon and wife, Bill Aaron and wife, James Schull and wife, John Comming and wife, Rev. Lott Bramlet and wife, Rev. Dozier Thornton and wife, James Attaway and wife, Rev. Freeman Attaway and wife, Joseph Couch and wife, Benjamin Starrett and wife, John P. Gaines and wife, Josiah Vaughn. Many regular attendants walked from 8 to 10 miles, among whom were Sartins, the Brays, the Criders, the Doves, and the Burnetts. Miss Fay Fowler has gone as a missionary to India from Double Branches." Hope this helps, Deb Kroll ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. Franklin County churches.......
    2. bonedigger
    3. I have enjoyed reading the little bits of information that has flowed into the list about Double Branches Church and the one I most recently received about the folks who built the church.... no pay etc.... I am compiling a family history of the original members of the Board of Trustees of the Prospect Methodist Church. Prospect was begun in 1838 as an extension of the previous Kesler Campground which met in a brush arbor setting when the crops were in each year for a week at a time. The land was donated by Henry Kesler and the people built the church as was the case at double branches. Does anyone have any information about Prospect Methodist or Kesler Campground that they would share with me. Does anyone have any old letters that mention either of the churches? How about family legends that tell about "going to Meeting" as it was called back then to either Prospect or Kesler campground. Incidentally the original members of the Board of trustees were Henry KESLER, David KESLER, Richard Lane CRUMP, Ephraim MABRY, and John LEDBETTER. There are other families being researched for inclusion so if you want to know if your family is part of this endeavor just ask me. I would be grateful for any help you could provide. Thanks, Charles. Don't worry bout me, I'm as organized as a henhouse full of chickens. bonedigr@concentric.net

    1. Fanny Allen/Hezekiah Pruitt and the McNeals
    2. Dawn Henderson
    3. It appears that Fanny Allen's mother is Sally McGregor who married a Morgan after the death of her first husband. Sally had a sister named Lucy McGregor who was first married to Daniel McNeal. (They had sons Henry and John and possibly a James, and they resided in Franklin Co., GA. Later, as boundary lines changed they were in Jackson and then Hall County.) In 1807 Lucy married Michael Walden [sic] in Franklin Co., GA. When Michael Walden died, his will was witnessed by Hezekiah Pruitt who lived close by. Daniel McNeal witnessed a deed of gift (1802) to Fanny Allen from her grandmother, Frances "Fanny" McGregor Villetoe. After Daniel's death and Lucy's remarriage, Michael Walling paid taxes for Fanny Allen since she was a minor. I suspect she lived with Michael, Lucy, Henry and John. The tie between Lucy, Sally and Frances Videtoe is given in a will left by James McGrigor in which he names his two sisters and his mother. I'll be glad to share the information I have with you or with any McNeal researchers in hope that more will join the hunt. Dawn > > Does anyone know the name of the parents of Fanny Allen? 2. Laura F. Mills
    3. Dear List Members, I have been working on this family for the past year. George W. Freeman (of Jackson, Franklin, Cherokee and Forsythe Counties GA, Fort Gibson OK and Washington Co, Arkansas) is the brother of my line (Dr. Henry Freeman of Franklin Co GA). Several of George's children were born in Indian Territory (Goingsnake District). I am working to piece this family together until I find a descendant who wants to take it over. Henry Vickery m. Charlotte Cordery (1/2 Cherokee) d/o Thomas Cordery and Susannah Sonicooie. George married Jennie Vickery (Vickory) and they eventually moved to Arkansas where members of his family were listed on the 1895 Old Settler rolls as "Foreman". George Freeman and Jennie Vickery (Vickory) George FREEMAN b.14 Feb 1798; d. 28 Apr 1858. Washington Co. Arkansas Md/25 Dec 1828 to Jennie VICKERY b. 19 Jul 1813 in Georgia. Children: Sarah Charlotte FREEMAN b 1839 Mary Elizabeth FREEMAN b. 1842. Md/John Ross MEIGS- living in Tahlequah, OK in 1895. In 1906 Mary was living in Park Hill, CN, IT. Cynthia Louisa FREEMAN b.1844- on 1895 Old Settler Roll- living in Dutch Mills, Washington Co, Arkansas. Salina Keziah FREEMAN b 1846. Md/William Noel STEWART - living at Grove, Cherokee Nationm as an Eastern Cherokee on the Miller Roll. Henry Benajah FREEMAN b,1851. Md/Elizabeth GOSS b.c.1856 - living in Flint District, Cherokee Nation - children Perry, Mary, Jennie, John, George (Freeman/Foreman) Georgianna FREEMAN b, 1855 . Md/Nathaniel WOFFORD b, 1850 listed on 1895 Old Settler Roll. I am hoping to find other OS (Old Settlers) #24 families and I am especially interested in the marriages of John Ross MEIGS, Nathaniel WOFFORD and Henry Benajah FREEMAN but would like to correspond with anyone with information or ideas about these individuals. This gives us lots of research possibilies. Laura Freeman Mills lfmills@ucdavis.edu

    2. Laura F. Mills
    3. Selina Freeman is a strong the naming pattern in my Freeman line and we have never been able to figure it out. Sarah Selina Freeman b 9 Mar 1826 and d 22 Nov 1847 in Franklin Co. GA d/o Dr Henry Freeman and Martha Mayfield Freeman and wife of William Holley m. 10 Jan 1847 Franklin Co. GA Sarah probably died in childbirth and we have never located her son? or her husband William Holley. and her cousin was: Salina Keziah FREEMAN d/o George W. Freeman and Jane (Jennie) Vickory (Vickery) Md/William Noel STEWART Dr Henry and George W Freeman were brothers from Jackson Co. GA. We do not know where they were born but suspect SC or NC. VA is a 3rd choice. Henry moved to Franklin Co, Georgia to open his medical practice in 1819 but George, a carpenter, moved his family to Cherokee Co GA and then on to Washington Co. Arkansas where members of his family were listed on the Old Settlers rolls as "Foreman". Please read my follow up e-mail(subject: Freeman, Vickory, Meigs, Ross-Cherokees-Old Settlers- GA and Arkansas) for details of George W. Freeman's family. I am hoping to find other GA families who left as OS (Old Settlers). Does anyone out there have any ideas on these individuals?
