He married Martha Cansada Crow, 14 Jan 1858, in Forsyth Co Ga. Andrew Jackson Bennett served in Co. E, 43rd Reg. Army of Tennessee. This regiment was called the Kellogg Rifles. He was appointed Private on March 10, 1862 and appointed 5th Sergeant in May 1863. He was captured at Baker's Creek Miss. May 17, 1863, (near Vicksburg, Miss.). He was imprisoned at Fort Delaware, Del. until July 3, 1863 when he was exchanged. He was in the camp hospital near Atlanta, where records show he was furloughed for 60 days. Records show that when his furlough expired he was unable to reach his command and he enlisted in Powell's Company Georgia Militia Calvary. Surrendered at Kingston, Ga. May 12, 1865 at close of war. He was a member of the League of Confederate Veterans and was in New Orleans to attend a meeting of this group when he died at the home of his son Freeman.
