My John Roper was married to Tabitha Roper in the 1850 Forsyth County census. In 1856 he married Amy Elizabeth Reid and is listed with her in the 1860 Forsyth County census. Tabitha had one more child, named Sarah, in 1854, so we assumed that she died between 1854 and 1856. But then Annette Bramblett sent us a list of the Friendship Baptist Church membership list that indicates that Tabitha remained a member of that church until 1877. Does this mean that old John dumped (divorced) Tabitha to marry a younger woman? Or is there some other possible explanation? David Roper David L.
