    3. I found this yesterday in the book Cherokee By Blood, George W. Raines is my gggrandfather. Can anyone help me with information on either Thomas Raines or Edmund Duncan. I know from tradition that there was a name change from Duncan to Raines. MISC. TEST. P. 979 - No. 15418--1163- George W. Raines: "I am 60 years of age was born in Forsythe County, Ga. and have lived in Georgia all my life. I claim Cherokee Indian blood through my father. I have never recieved any Indian money from the government. I went to the Territory in 1894. I went to Mr. Thomas Stell and made an application for an allotment. He filed the papers with the Dawes Commission but I never received an allotment. In 1852 I lived in Forsythe County. I do not know if my father received any Indian money then or nor [sic]. I never heard of Hester, the enrolling agent about 1882. I have heard that I had Indian blood ever since I can remember. Heard my mother and father talk of it. My father lived with the Indians. I do not know why my father was not paid in 1852. He spoke the Indian language. I cannot." SIGNED: George W. Raines, Marietta, Ga. Jul 6, 1908. EXCEPTION CASE. George W. Raines (Appl 15418) and 1 child, Blackwells, Ga. Rejected. Total number of exceptions filed in this group-- 17. Original recommendation renewed. Exceptions disclos no clerical error and set forth no additional material facts. Applicant now gives a different person as his grandfather, naming Edmund Duncan in place of Thomas Raines. The affidavit in support shows that Edmund Duncan moved West in 1835. Applicant's father is said to have started with him. The father was born about 1790, but was not enrolled with the Eastern Cherokees in 1835. No ancestor shown to have been enrolled with the Eastern Cherokees." Wanda
