It has been pointed out that in quoting Irene's letter I typed the date as 11 Jan 1840. I'm sorry - that's what she said. I will refer you to Marriage Book A p.84 where the date is given as 16 Jan 1840. Any doubts, the original is available on a microfilm copy at the Probate Court Forsyth County. The original Book A and Book B were under the cabinet in the Probate Court when the courthouse burned in the early 1970's. They were scheduled to leave that day for the Archives in Atlanta to be rebound. Joyce and I tried to retrieve them the next day, but were stopped by the Fire Marshal who said it was unsafe.
