John L. Cruse in 1853 owned 360 acres - home on LL 49-14-1 Young Terry in 1853 owned 200 acres - home on LL 472-1-1 Westley S. Bagley owned 160 acres - home on 913-2-1 Harrison and Moor had a business in Forsyth Town District $350 stocks/bonds $1368 cash Didn't J. F. Harrison drill or dig the first well in Cumming? Before that they used a spring. From some deeds that I found later, I believe that the "official" spring may have been located on what is now Samaritan Drive in a southeast direction from the corner of the old hospital. Many of us from later remember the spring that fed the minnow tanks at Hansard's Bait Shop and ran on into one of the Tanyard branches that fed into Vickery (Big Creek). There was a shoe factory on that branch at one time. Another tanyard branch can still be seen running thru the Cumming City Park. It meandered around and wound up in Baldridge Creek. Moor had a business on the square and more on him can be found under Town of Cumming. You can't mention the Bait Shop without thinking of Junior Samples and HeeHaw. Junior used to shop for groceries at Barnett's when I did. He also liked to fish Baldridge Creek behind my home. When he would come trolling by in his bass boat, he would stop by the boatdock if I was down there and speak. He also liked to throw a cast in front of my waterfall. There have been some pretty bass come out of there. He would be as sick as I am at seeing the mud flat I have lived on for over 2 years. Siltage from construction ha made it so that at full pool, we would have less than 5 feet of water instead of 20. Of course we haven't had full pool in a long time. Donna
So the town of Cumming is in Forsyth Co. GA, that is where my GGGrandparents married. Is there a sourse book for that area that tells who is buried in what cemeteries around this town? Also is there a history of this town online or in book form and if so what would the name of the book be?? I am trying to prove that Isaac Casey of the 1840 Census who lived two doors away from Hix Martin was the Father of Hix Martin's wife Margaret Casey. Please help me out a bit with this.
