    1. Re: [GAFORSYT] 1840 Census: Martin Families
    2. Yes, Richard, I haven't forgotten. Wiley Stone was born c. 1803 in SC (somewhere). He married Candace Buckner (somewhere) He and family are in Forsyth Co for 1840 and 1850. In 1850 he has daughter Elender living next door with her husband, Ben Wilson. He also has 4 boys at home, to wit : Wesley, James , Francis Asbury b 1842 and William Pitchford b1844 In 1860 he is in a county drawn partly from Forsyth, thus he didn't physically move, just got reboundaried ... that was Milton Co I think. There was a James nearby in 1860 in Milton co. Some of us think that James is likely his father and some of think James' father would be a William. We think the line goes to early VA to a John thru a couple of more generations with at least one more William. Nothing earlier than Wiley is proven to my satisfaction. I have tried to track Candace Buckner but had no great success. Did find her sister Charlotte to be the second wife of a well known Capt. John Rogers. That made Capt John to be Wiley's brother in law. Lots of Buckner searchers around but none with our Candace or Charlotte. A further comment ... I have noticed that there are a number of Stone men with families in Forsyth in the 1830-50 census listings, all from SC. Makes me wonder if they aren't also related.. brothers or nephews. another note: We came across a picture of a man and woman. The label was Uncle John ... no mention of who the woman was though I would guess his wife. She looks to have some indian ancestry. We haven't figured out if he is Wiley's brother or Wiley's uncle... it will depend on the generation of the woman who wrote the caption. We are trying to establish that. Meantime, I think I will take ALL Stone entries in Forsyth (and maybe surrounding Counties) and spread them on a big sheet. Maybe a different look will give me a different clue. Good luck in your search.
