My greataunt lives in Canton, GA. When I started my research in 1999 I spoke with her. She asked how far back I wanted to trace the family and I said as far as possible. She then said that I might have a problem because it had been passed down that the Fowlers were originally Bartons. I later heard from other researchers about the Revolutionary War part. I think that the Fowler in question would have been the father of William and James. James was born in 1797 and William in 1803 so they would not have been born yet. You are the first descendant of William that I have heard mention this rumor. Several lines of James Fowler's family has heard the rumor passed down in one form or another. I would love to find some info on the parents of William and James. I also heard from a researcher last week that possibly a 3rd brother was in Cherokee Co. There is a Thomas Fowler that lives next door to William in 1870. I haven't looked into this yet but I plan to do so soon. Thanks, Tracey
