I stated my interest in genealogy from conversations with a friend who was kin to James Fowler, almost 10 years ago. I knew that the Fowlers were buried at Hightower Baptist Church from my grandmother Ether (nee Edwards)Howard and her mother, Lena Gertrude (nee Fowler) Edwards. William Marcus Fowler was the grandfather of Lena. When I started checking and determined that the both William and James were from the Hightower area of Cherokee Co., Ga., I knew that there was a definite relationship between these two men. Your information is the first proof that members of both families claimed kinship. I'm now interested to know about their parents. I had read where William was not actually a Fowler. That he was born a Barton, but after the Revolutionary War, found his family had either left or had been killed. He then lived with a neighbor family named Fowler and took thier name. ! The fact that he had a brother makes it less likely that this story true, unless they both served during the War at the same time and something happened to the remainder of their family that prevented them for finding them. Also in case you do not know, James and Sarah Fowler were founders of New Harmony Baptist Church in Forsyth Co., Ga. Keep up the good work. Maybe the next time you are at the archives, you can see if there is any Revolutionary War records on James or William.
While you all are discussing the Fowler surname, I wonder if there is any one out there who knows of the Fowlers I have attached to my Smith family from the area. What follows is really all I know, outside of having a picture on my website of, who my grandparents said was, Lum and Grace Fowler. >1-- Lum Fowler ( - ) > sp-Sarah Ada Smith (1874-1957) ,,Georgia > 2-- Ray Fowler ( - ) > 2-- Moutie Fowler ( - ) > 2-- Gorden Fowler ( - ) > 2-- Grace Fowler ( - ) Sarah Ada is a part of this family and was more commonly known by her middle name, Ada. I hope that some one will be able to help me find her family and her husband's ancestors. 1-- James Monroe Smith [I] (1851-1930) or of,Forsyth County,Georgia sp-Mary Hannah Hope (1847-1888) ,,Georgia 2-- Mary Theora Smith (1872-1960) Cumming,Forsyth County,Georgia sp-Andrew Jackson Mann [M. I have nothing on Fowlers, but curious if you could be descended from James P Mc Gee or Patrick McGee listed in the 1830 Habersham County GA Census. Members of the family were also listed in the 1850 Census for Forsyth County. I'm sorry, but my McGee/McGeehe/McGehee line is in Marion County, GA in 1830. I have not yet been able to connect my McGee to any other McGees thus far. Have you checked Anson County, NC? K.
