Here is the 1880 listing: William Philipps, age 50, farmer Eliza Jane Philipps, age 44, wife, keeping house Mary J. Philippis, age 22, daughter, at home Larkin Roper, age 14, hired, laboring on farm Reason for my query: Larkin and his siblings had many Roper relatives living in the area and it is strange to me that all of them ended up living as hired hands in unrelated households after their mother died (their father had died several years earlier). So I've just been trying to find out a bit about the households in which they lived. Any insight at all would be appreciated. Thanks. David R David L. In the 1880 census, one of my relatives, (William) Larkin Roper, age 14, is living with the household of William Phillips in the Vickerys Creek District of Foryth County. Georgia with wife,3 sons and daughter. He is in the 1850 Co. Census in Gilmer Co. The oldest son, am not sure who he is. I suspect that Robert Obriant is a possibiltiy- at least a cousin or uncle, the Robert that married Zelphia and later appears in Walton Co. Georgia. Robert was born about 1824. But Caleb's second son is James(born 1824-1830) and son Joseph(born 1832 and daughter Lucy born 1835 to 1840. Joseph married Jane Charles ( suspect Sarah J. I am a Gantt also looking for links to the family in Cherokee or elsewhere. My great, great, great grandfather Lewis and 3-4 sons left Forsyth for Cherokee. My great, great grandfather Bluford fought in the War Between the States in the 2nd Georgia calvary. He lost a leg at the knee. Lewis wanted Bluford to have the already established farm in Forsyth; therefore, the remainder of the family moved to Cherokee. To date l have little information beyond Internet sources. Please share. Thanks. P.S. Lewis was the first Gantt (spelled Gant then) in Forsyth County. His family goes back to Virginia where the family arrived in the 1600's from England.
